N. Forsyth JV baseball
prepared for next level
By Jim Riley
Staff Writer
At the annual North Forsyth
Raiders baseball banquet, Junior
Varsity Coach David Sokol
wrapped up the season by hand
ing out certificates to his players
and giving them words of encour
agement.
Though the Raider JV didn’t
have an exceptional won-lost
record, Sokol felt that they had
accomplished a lot during the
year. “We didn’t have a lot of suc
cess as far as wins,” he said. “But
we worked hard on fundamen
tals.”
Mark Shirley was the recipient
of the J.V. Award. “This award
goes to the player with the best
attitude,” he said.
Sokol praised his pitchers,
including Nathan Prichard,
Darrell Corter, and Shirley.
“Prichard had a good attitude this
year,” he said. He also said that
Corter and Shirley are two pitch
ers that “we expect a lot out of in
the future.”
The coach felt that Jeremy
Wood has some definite promise
as a baserunner. “He. played in 12
games this year and stole 13 or 14
bases,” Sokol said.
As far as offense went, Matt
Roper led the team. “He has a lot
of ability and good power al the
plate,” he said.
Academics play a big role in any
sport, and Sokol gave Russell
Pinson a pat on the back for tak
ing his studies seriously. “He has
a great attitude and is a great stu
dent,” he said.
Sokol felt that his most
improved players were Smith
Tailant and Brian Dyer. “Smith
improved a lot from the beginning
of the season,” he said. “Brian
was always in the weight room.”
