Hitachi’s excellence in technolo
gy and GE’s market presence.
Forsyth County Board of
Commissioners Chairman Ron
Seder was present at the ceremo
ny to welcome the company to
the county. Seder said many peo
ple and industries are excited
about Forsyth County for reasons
including the safe, suburban
lifestyle and Lake Lanier.
Economic reasons also make
Forsyth attractive.
“We have a low tax rate. I’m
going to repeat that. We have a
low tax rate,” he said.
Seder said companies such as
GE-Hitachi will help balance the
county’s tax base between resi
dents and businesses. Industries
can also bring higher paying jobs
closer to home which will help
increase the quality of life.
GE-Hitachi arrived in Forsyth
County in late January. The move
to John’s Creek marked .the third "
transplant for the company. It
began in Philadelphia in 1977. In
1982 the operation was moved to
Norcross.
GE-Hitachi is leasing the build
ing and six acres of property at a
cost of $7 million for the next 15
years. The building can be
expanded an additional 60,000
square feet if necessary.
agreement strengthens and
expands a partnership which has
existed more that 50 years
among federal, state, and local
government people. This part
nership has resulted in some of
the most important conservation
achievements on private lands in
Georgia and the nation. “We like
to think of conservation districts,
whose supervisors are unpaid,
local volunteers, as one of the
true success stories in this
nation,” they said.
The Upper Chattahoochee
River District includes Dawson,
Forsyth, Habersham, Lumpkin
and White Counties and was
chartered in January, 1938.
