LOWER YOUR ELECTRIC BILL
The monthly electrical bill (thanks to the increased cost of fuel) has
increased more than the cost of living in many areas around the country.
Fortunately, there are ways to reduce this expense. Here are some suggestions
from the Federal Energy Office:
Concentrate lighting in the reading and working areas. Reduce lighting
in other areas. Use one large bulb rather than several smaller ones. One 100-watt
bulb produces more light than two 60-watt bulbs. Use clothes washer, dryer and
dishwaher only when they are fully loaded. Wash clothes in cold water with cold
water detergents. If everyone did this, some 160,000 banrels of oil per day could
be saved nationally. A household’s dollar saving would be about 4%. One 100-
watt bulb burning around the clock for one year wastes more than 60 gallons of
oil and adds S2B to your electric bill. Finally, a 40-watt fluorescent bulb gives
more light than a 100-watt incandescent one. It lasts 10 times as long as used
half the energy.
