Longaberger teams
up with the American
Cancer Society in the
fight against cancer
The Longaberger’s Company
kicks off their annual National
Charity Campaign in July with
the sale of the 1996 Horizon of
Hope™ Basket and a goal of
raising more than $550,000 for
breast cancer research. For every
Horizon of Hope Basket pur
chased, The Longaberger
Company will donate $2 to the
American Cancer Society bene
fiting breast cancer research.
“We want to do our part to
help,” says Tami Longaberger,
President. “I feel very good that
the funds are being spent effec
tively and our contributions are
making a difference in the quali
ty of life of women.” She adds
that the two key objectives in
Longaberger’s National Charity
Campaign are to increase aware
ness about cancer-related issues
and also to raise funding for can
cer research.
The Company first teamed up
with the American Cancer
Society in 1995, when the
Longaberger Sales Field helped
raise nearly $450,000 for breast
cancer research as well as edu
cating nearly 1.3 million women
about cancer-related issues, dur
ing the July/ August campaign.
The Company currently supports
four breast cancer research pro
jects being conducted across the
nation.
Dr. Rena Vassilopoulou-Sellin
of the University of Texas
described Longaberger’s efforts
as being “special and pure,”
adding that as a company, they

have nothing to gain from their
relationship with the American
Cancer Society, but are doing it
because it is the right thing to do.
This year’s Horizon of Hope
Basket has a brand-new design
that measures 6 3/4” x 4 3/4” x 2
1/4”. Special features include
3/8” weaving, a stationary handle
and the American Cancer Society
logo burned into the bottom of
the basket. The basket can be
accented with a fabric liner in
any of Longaberger’s Woven
Traditions fabric patterns, and
each basket comes with 12 deli
cious Recipes for Healthy
Living, provided by the
American Cancer Society.
The Horizon of Hope campaign
runs during July and August
when more than 30,000
Longaberger Independent
Associates nationwide will be
selling the basket along with the
Companys regular line of
Longaberger Baskets, an exclu
sive line of pottery and dinner
ware, fabric liners and acces
sories, Woodcrafts dividers and
lids and wrought iron products
through home shows.
The Longaberger Company,
based in Dresden, Ohio is a fami
ly owned business. The
Company’s factory is the largest
of its type in the world, where
skilled artisans carry on a long
time tradition of weaving baskets
by hand. Each Longaberger
Basket is signed and dated by the
weaver who created it. Many
items are sold not only for their
ountry music superstar and Georgia native, Trisha Yearwood will
kick-off the 1996 Pan Athenic Festival Concert schedule in the new
Classic Center Theatre. Rolling Stonymigame calls her most
recent album, Thinking About You, a near perfect example of
the country-pop music genre."
