In the top of the fifth, Team Two
picked up another run off of an
R. 8.1. single from Huggins. The
tally was then 10-5.
Team One answered in the bot

runs on an R. 8.1. double from
Light, and a fielder’s choice from
Buddy Deßoche.
Forsyth Two tried hard to catch
up in the sixth. First, Brent
Register drove in Handley on a
single. Then Evan Nissley
reached third on an error, scoring
Register. After this brief rally, an
out at first ended Team Two’s
chance at a one-game champi
onship win.
Game 2
Team One came out of the
dugout swinging in the second
game, racking up six runs in the
first inning. Light drove in Nick
Newton for the first run. Then,
Sexton reached on an error, scor

A run was then walked in for the
fifth run of the inning.

Head Coach Dennis Howell,

In game one, Green surrendered

Unlike regular golf, however,
disc golf makes use of no unnat

sand traps etc. “Our obstacles are
all in nature,” Umphcnour empha

This athlete is originally from
Savannah, but has lived in
Cumming for the last 12 years,
and is the former owner of Pizza
Inn.
She was introduced to the sport
by her boyfriend Jason Dowling, a
local guitar teacher. They then
started playing Disc Golf at the
course in Alpharetta at Wills Park.
Two years ago, Umphenour trav
eled to Kingston, Tennessee for
her first Disc Golf tournament.
She won an award at the tourna
ment, but not the one she was
looking for. “I won an award for
the most strokes ever in a tourna
ment with 388 for 72 holes,” she
said. “Then I decided to practice
hard.”
After that revelation,
Umphenour did win a moral vic
tory of sorts. “I have won that
tournament for the past two
years,” she said. “I will go back to
that tournament every year.”
Umphenour has racked up an
impressive record of victories at
several national tournaments this
spring and summer, including the
Lakefront Tournament in
Kingsport, TN.
She won second place in singles
and first place in doubles (with
partner Jo Taylor from Marietta)

The coach said his team has
developed away of pecking away
offensively with their running
game at an opponent, and they did
so in game one.
They had single runs in the 2nd,
3rd and 4th, then two in the sixth
and three in the seventh.
Monday was also an excellent
performance for Forsyth as they
beat Habersham, 5-2, to make it
to the championship round.
Green started on the mound and
at the annual “Tax Tourney” in
Birmingham, Alabama on April
13. She then traveled to the
Nashville Open on April 27, and
won second place in the singles
division.
After the Kingsport tournament
on May 18, she traveled to the
Rocket City Super Tournament in
Huntsville, Alabama where she
won third place.
In June, she went to Rock Hill,
South Carolina where she won
first place in the tourney there.
All of these victories were not
unnoticed, as she was invited to
participate in the World Amateur
competition and excelled in a
field of over 200 participants.
With all of these accolades,
Umphenour is still happy to com
pete on the local level. “I have a
lot of fun on this level,” she said.
“You don’t have to pay pro fees.”
There are several reasons that
Umphenour enjoys disc golf.

According to Umphenour, there
are currently about 450 disc golf
courses in the United States and
most of them are located in public
parks. Also, the sport is popular in
several foreign countries, such as
England, Denmark,
Sweden, Germany and especially,
Japan. , ,
