AARP Tax-Aide: People helping
people with ‘taxing ’ situation
By Beth L. Chester
Staff Writer
‘Tax season is upon us, and this

helping seniors meet the demands
df Uncle Sam with a little more
ease.
It’s called Tax-Aide, and last year

each Thursday through April 13.
Local coordinator Susan

designed to lessen the burden of tax
season for those age 60-plus. The
IRS lends its own support because
the trained counselors cut down on
errors and reduce the agency’s pro
cessing time.
"To meet requirements of
AARP/IRS organizers, Holzweiss
and other volunteer counselors
' completed a week-long training
’class and passed an extensive eight
hour take-home exam.
Counselors are also up-to-date on
the latest changes in the taxation of
’ Capital gains from the sale of a pri
mary home, as well as the sale of
stock and similar transactions.
They’re also trained in itemizing
