Cobb picked as regional director
Sheriff’s office chaplain Gene
, Cobb has been selected as a
regional director of the Georgia
Sheriff’s Association
Chaplain’s Division.
Cobb will be serving as the
regional director of Region 3,
which includes Forsyth County
as well as 21 other counties. He
has served as a chaplain with
the Forsyth County Sheriff’s
Office since the beginning of
the program in 1997. Cobb also
serves as the chairperson of the
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office
Citizen Advisory Board.
Cobb was selected as a
regional director at a meeting
of the Chaplain’s Division on
May 8 at the Bibb County Law
Enforcement Center in Macon.
The purpose of the meeting was
to organize the chaplain’s divi
sion. Sixty-nine counties were
represented at the one-day
meeting.

“We are working to get all the
chaplains in all the sheriff’s
offices certified,” said Cobb.
All chaplains would have to be
ordained ministers and com
plete 40 hours for certification
and a total of 160 hours of
training.
The chaplains of the Forsyth
County Sheriff’s Office are vol
unteers who work with the
office in times of need. They
act as support in times of crisis,
such as deaths and serious
injuries. They can also be used
during hostage negotiations and
in assisting victims of crime.
The chaplains also act as
counselors for the officers in
dealing with stress and relation
’ ships. They assist in the prison
ministry and attend Sheriff’s
office functions and events
i where they deliver invocations
i and benedictions.

expenses of Sheriff’s sergeant
A raffle is being sponsored to
offset the catastrophic medical
expenses of Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Rod Johnson
and his wife, Elaine.
Johnson has been a member of
the Sheriff’s Office for more than
10 years and has been an active
member of the Fraternal Order of
Police and the Optimist Club. He
also helped organize the
Explorers of the Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office.
Prizes in the raffle include,
three-night, four-day Caribbean
cruise plus round trip arifare for
two from Atlanta. Second place
prize is a weekend for two at
Forrest Hills Resort in Dahlonega.
Third place is the Chattahoochee
Black Power Arms Model #lß6l
Special .58 caliber musket.
A barbeque fundraiser is being
held on Saturday June 13 from 11
a.m. - 6 p.m. Barbeque chicken
plates can be purchased for $5
