Sheriff's Office incident reports summary

A 1998 Fbrd Escort and an esti
matedsl,ooo worth of tools were
stolen from the county landfill
between June 6-7.
According to the Sheriff’s office
report, the thief broke into three
office buildings at the old Federal
Road site.
All three buildings had broken
windows or broken front doors.
The theft areas were wiped
clean of fingerprints, but investi
gators managed to obtain a partial
print from one of the door knobs.
The Escort is a white four-door
with Ga. tag 122696.
Among the missing items is a
Makita saw, a Topcon auto level
and an Estwing hammer.
Firefighters collects money for Bum Foundation
The Forsyth County Fire
Department collected $3,865.67
for the Georgia Firefighters Bum
Foundation during its three-day
“Give Bums the Boot” drive held
May 14-16.
Forsyth was one of more than
100 fire departments throughout
the state which participated in the
ninth annual fundraiser benefiting
the Georgia Firefighters Burn
Foundation.
Final collection totals were not
available but, in its first eight
years, the event has raised more
than $2 million for the founda-

This was the fourth county
building illegally enteied in the
past three weeks.
Other incidents reported to the
Sheriff’s office include:
• Four counterfeit bills were
used to buy goods at the
McFarland Road Country
Cupboard on June 5. Three of the
bills were SIOO bills with serial
number A889663463C. The
fourth bill is a SSO with serial
number 8247819968. None of
the clerks remembered accepting
the bills.
• Someone cut a cable holding a
private dock on Lakeshore Drive
on June 7. The dock owner was
on her boat when the dock floated
into the cove. The cut cable was
found at the scene.

• A black, pigskin saddle and a
brown girth were stolen from a
Sharon Road bam on June 6. The
thief removed a gate from a hinge
to make entry. The letters FLF are
written on the girth.
• A Toro weed trimmer, a Black
and Decker saw, a set of Husky
tools, a Ryobi cordless drill and a
Porter hand sander were stolen
out of the garage of a
Briarmeadow View residence
between June 4-6. The garage
was not secured.
• Someone stole a Kenwood
radio-compact disc player out of a
Oldsmobile Cutlass parked at an
Atlanta Highway address on June
7. It is believed the car was
opened with a coat hangar or
other tool.

Bubba McDonald appointed to PSC
Former State Rep. Lauren
“Bubba” McDonald will be sworn
in Wednesday to serve on the
Georgia Public Service
Commission until the winner of a
special election assumes office.
McDonald was appointed
Monday by Gov. Zell Miller to
fill the unexpired term of Mac
Barber, who resigned to run for
lieutenant governor.
“In filling this important posi
tion, I wanted to find an individ
ual who could truly make a differ
ence,” said Miller. “This man’s
leadership in the legislative arena,
in business and in his community
uniquely qualifies him for service
on the PSC. He understands well
the critical involvement that the
PSC has in the daily lives of all
Georgians.”
McDonald, 59, currently serves as
president of Georgians for Better
Transportation and as a member of
the Southern Governors’
Association Transportation Task
Force Committee.
The Commerce native served for
20 years in the Georgia House of
Representatives, holding the chair
manship of the Industry Committee
for five years and the
Appropriations Committee for
eight years. He also served on the
Georgia World Congress Center
Overview Committee.
McDonald is a partner with his
son, Lauren McDonald 111, in
L.W. McDonald & Son Funeral
Home in Cumming. He serves as
vice president and treasurer and
his wife, Sunny, is secretary. He is
also the long-time owner of
McDonald Hardware Company
and Builders Supply in
Commerce.
A former member of the
Jackson County Board of
Commissioners, McDonald
served on the Association of
County Commissioners of
Georgia’s Board of Managers.
He also served on the Mercer
University College Board of
Governors, as director of the
Small Business Development
Center at the University bf
Georgia and as a member of the
Board of Advanced Technology
Center at the University of
Georgia.
The graduate of the University of
Georgia earned a Bachelor of
Business Administration in Business.
McDonald is a member of
Commerce Presbyterian Church,
where he is an elder.
A special election will be held in
this Nov. 3 General Election to
fill Barber’s unexpired term,
which ends Jan. 1, 2003.
