The 4-H
Outsiders
Club
A brand new special interest
club is just getting off the ground.
This interest club is for Junior and
Senior 4-H’ers who are interested in
outdoor activities. We will have at
least one activity a quarter.
Theses activities include: camp
ing, hiking, canoeing, mountain
biking, white water rafting and
other adventurous outdoor activi
ties.
This club will offer year round
training for 4-H’ers on the wildlife and
forestry teams, provide hands on education
on outdoor safety and survival skills, not to
Junior Camp yielded memories
By Morgan Rappatta

Junior Camp at Tybee Island was definitely
one of the best experiences I have ever had!
We did everything from wrestle the waves
of the ocean at day to stargazing at night. We
sailed on the Savannah River on the “Georgia
River Queen” and walked up and down River
Street. We toured all around beautiful
Savannah learning all about James Oglethorpe
and much more.
There were two scavenger hunts: one was
all about 4-H. And the other about Fort
Pulaski, which was an old Civil War site. We
ran everywhere searching for answer to the
questions.
Each day, we attended a class. Each coun
selor taught a special class,, such as crabbing,
beach ecology, reptiles, seining or marshes. In
crabbing, we learned how to catch crabs and
much more. In beach ecology, we learned how
sand dunes are made. We passed around differ
ent snakes, in reptile class. I know that sounds
creepy, but it wasn’t that bad. In seining, we

TO the future;
We salute the Forsyth County 4-H members during
National 4-H week. Members and volunteers of 4-H clubs
all over the country have brought young minds, hearts &
hands together with goals, opportunities & tasks. From
these learning encounters, young people have developed
into fine, responsible, active citizens.

put out a net, but we didn’t catch much. My
personal favorite, and many others, the marsh
class. We went and walked into a marsh, and if
you didn’t fall in, you were thrown in! And we
all got muddy, it was great!!
Every night we had a dance. They held spe
cial dances like a 70s Retro Dance, dr a
Hawaiian Luau on the pier. After each dance,
we had vespers, where the counselors always
had something meaningful to say about life or
a lesson to teach.
We also had “wet games”. In almost all of
the games, we got wet. Have you ever heard of
a five legged race? Or put your forehead to an
end of a baseball bat covered with pudding
while spinning around ten times? It wasn’t
easy.
I made friends from other counties all
around Georgia. And we had great counselors,
too. I thought it was hard to believe we could
fit everything in those five days. Like I said, it
was one of the best experiences I have ever
had, and I know that I can carry that with me,
forever.
4-H WEEK
Helping Children Learn About Safety
By Aimee Smith
North Forsyth High School
My project this year in 4-H is safety. This
summer I had the privilege to volunteer to help
with Safety Town. This is a program that is
designed to teach 4-year-old safety. Every morn
ing we were assigned children to work with. We
helped them to learn to cross the street, how to

ride a bike safely wearing a helmet, and what to
watch out for and taught them never to talk or
get in a car with a stranger. The Fire Department
came out with a Smoke House and taught them
fire drills and fire safety. State Farm Insurance
taught them how to dial 911. This is a very good
program and I also learned a lot about safety. It
was a very rewarding experience of teaching
children how to stay safe.
