Park Ranger Nick Baggett led
a group of volunteers on a simi
lar mission, last fall. Using the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
barge, the Constitution, Ranger
Baggett and the volunteers
removed several tons of debris
from the Flat Creek channel of
Lake Lanier. Although tons of
trash have been removed, the
cleanup efforts only put a small
dent in the trash in and around
Flat Creek.
Winter is the perfect time to
clean up any section of the lake,
including Flat Creek. Lake
Lanier has routinely dropped
several feet each winter before
the Spring rains fill it back up.
The lower lake levels make col
lection of trash off the shore
lines much easier. Trash can
also be removed from areas nor
mally submerged under water.
