Many teenagers across the
country are concerned about fac
ing their peers because of a com
mon skin condition - acne.
Emphasizing that acne is more
than just a cosmetic problem, The
American Counseling Association
is urging teenagers and their par
ents to consult a physician for
medical treatment of moderate to
severe cases of acne. Seeking
treatment now can improve the
condition.
“Acne is more than just a
source of minor embarrassment
for teenagers,” said Dr. Gail
Robinson, immediate past presi
dent of the American Counseling
Association. “Many teenagers
with acne have a negative self
image, which can lead to with
drawal from friends and activities,
inappropriate behavior and poor
academic performance. Resolving
their anxiety over acne is impor
tant to the confidence teenagers
need to succeed socially and acad
emically.”

impacts of acne
About 85 percent of people

In some ways, Harriet said, life
wasn’t much different in the
South.
“We lived in a little town with
one gas station, a country store, so
Cumming wasn’t that big a differ

lonely, I went to the bank and
talked to the people.”
And today?
“Oh, it’s become a little city,”
Harriet said with a chuckle. “But
that’s progress. Twenty-four years
ago when I came here, I was an
outsider - now you have people
from all over (the world) living in
Forsyth. The progress, I think it

has improved the school system.
Scholastic achievements will be
better; a lot more children will go
to college. It’s not that the teachers
are necessarily better, it’s just that
the demands are more. Also, the
sports system is not as political as
it used to be, so a lot more chil
dren will get a chance.”

Ever positive, Harriet had to be
prompted for any negatives to
Forsyth’s progress.
“I feel sorry for some people
with the increase in taxes, but, the
money has to come from some-
where. Yes, we’ll have, problems
with progress, but we’ll cope with
them.”
Despite extensive travel that

Norway, Denmark, Sweden,
Germany, England, Scotland,
Hong Kong, Greece and Alaska,
“There’s no place like home,”
Harriet said.
“I’m very happy here. I’d like
to go back to the North for about
three days, to see my friends,”
said Harriet. “But I have friends
down here, too. I just enjoy peo-

A self-described workaholic,
one would have to be fit and moti

- regardless of age. But it is all in
the attitude, said Harriet, who
believes that the retirement age
should change. Not that it would
make any difference for her: “I’m
gonna work ’til I die,” she said.
