"That’s where I met my husband
and we’ve lived happily ever after,” she
explains, looking beneath her cluttered
desk for a piece of wood on which to
knock.
She met Lyle, now retired from the
Michigan State Police, at a local "fun
run.” Although she confesses he didn’t
stick out from the hundreds of other
policemen she met that day, she later
availed herself of his help and they
began dating.
Another assignment landed her in
Honolulu, where she spent three
weeks trailing Philippine First Lady
and shopaholic Imelda Marcos.
"And, yes, I will answer the ques

store, but I didn’t follow her in. We
later determined it was a shoe caper,”
she says, quickly adding the mission
had serious implications during a time
of political upheaval.

Schroeder likes the diversity of her
fellow agents, having seen everyone
from a dentist to a veteran CNN jour
nalist to a P.E. teacher join the FBI.
She acknowledges being female, espe
cially an aimed female, can at times
seem contrary.
“You still want to be a lady and
have the door opened for you, but I
also have to be confident because two
hours later I might be on a raid and
can’t get worried about breaking a fin
gernail,” she says.
Schroeder puts on a serious face
when discussing the importance of the
FBl’s mission, basically to catch bad
guys and provide U.S. attorneys with
enough evidence to lock them away
for good.
