Town Hall Meeting
The second annual town hall
meeting, sponsored by Forsyth
County Schools, will be held
Monday, Feb. 22, from 7-8 p.m. at
Forsyth Central High School in
the auditorium. The purpose of
- meeting is to raise awareness
in Forsyth County regarding par
ent and student issues. Personal
safety, parent networking, driving
safety and sexual issues will be
discussed at the meeting. For

Special Education Advisory
The Special Education Advisory
Committee will meet on Feb. 16
at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Office,

Ski trip
Forsyth County Parks &
Recreation is sponsoring two
snowskiing trips to Cataloochee
Ski Resort in Maggie Valley, N.C.
A weekday trip is planned for
Friday, Feb. 5. The fee is S4O,
which includes transportation, lift
ticket, equipment rental and a
beginning lesson. Transportation
is limited. Families and individu
als wishing to provide their own
transportation are charged S3O. A
holiday trip is planned for
Monday, Feb. 15 (Forsyth County
Schools are closed). The fees are
$55 with transportation and $45

Early Childhood PTA
The Forsyth County Early
Childhood PTA is sponsoring a
Sweetheart Celebration Party on
Saturday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to
noon at Midway Elementary
School in the gym. Admission is
$2 per child. Adults get in free
with the purchase of a child’s

Spelling bee
The Forsyth County school sys-
tem spelling bee will be held
Saturday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. at
Coal Mountain Elementary
School in the cafeteria.
Registration of participants will
begin at 10 a.m. The bee will
begin no later than 10:30 a.m. The
public is invited to attend the

Lanier Tech
GED tests are administered at
Lanier Tech for a testing fee of
$35. Testing dates are Feb. 17 and

Weekday preschool
Cumming First United
Methodist Church will hold week
day preschool registration for the
1999-2000 school year on Feb.

Library will host a Valentine’s
puppet show on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Conference helps learning disabled
Advocacy for the learning dis
abled student and adult will be a
focus at the 36th annual interna
tional conference of the Learning
Disabilities Association of
America, to be held in Atlanta on
Feb. 24-27 at the Atlanta Hilton.
The conference theme,
“Learning Disabilities On My
Mind,” will address the needs of
the population affected by learn
ing disabilities. More than 200
sessions and topical workshops
will be presented. Teacher train
ing, vocational preparation, rights
to education and employment,
medical sessions, scientific ses
sions, computer workshops and

4-Hers at work
At a 4-H meeting last fall, fifth
graders from Cumming Elementary
School presented demonstrations
to their classes. Demonstrations
are based on topics of interest to
the student. 4-H leaders Gail Smith
and Tammy Wright guide the stu
dents in running the monthly meet
ings and prepare demonstrations of
their own for the students. Left,
