NORTH from 7G
wrestling program continued to
be a top-ten rated team much of
the season and placed Jeremy
Hamilton (third) and Jason
Carroll (fifth) at state - despite
losing some key personnel during
the season under new head coach
Richard Lowe.
In basketball, both the boys and
girls varsity teams just missed
state playoff berths, with the boys
surprising with a late-season run
from last place in the region and
the girls fighting for the 7-AA top
three all year.
The cheerleading squad,
under new coach Lara
Freeman, was close to making
state, too.
Along with baseball, North’s
other spring sports are coming
off a banner year. The girls
track team won the 8-A crown
and both boys and girls squads
sent several to state - with
Megan Thacker taking second
in the 800 meters. The girls
soccer team was Area runner
up and made state for the sec
ond straight year.
This spring, the baseball team
faces a difficult challenge to
return to state after heavy grad
uation losses, but the girls soc
cer and track teams are prime
contenders again for state play
off berths. Golf and tennis are
also looking strong and could
do better than ever.
Miller is also proud of the
players who graduated from
North Forsyth last spring and
are attending college and play
ing sports. Matt Shelter and Bo
Counts are both playing college
baseball. Robi Nason, Meredith
Tallant and Jamie Gilbert
played basketball for the
Raiders and are playing college
ball. Ashleigh Bennett and
Madeline Spaugh are playing
soccer in college. Mindy Bailey
is playing softball and Clay

football.
Kevia Brown has been play
ing both college basketball and
softball this year.
“From what I understand,
these players are doing a good
job in the classroom too,” said
Miller. “It makes everyone feel

continuing to do a good job in

Miller is also happy that the
stadium, softball practice field,
track and other facilities have
all been recently completed.
“We have the only cross coun
try course on campus in the
area,” said Miller “and it’s
nice. I ran on it yesterday.”
North has also renovated the
baseball field by improving the
playing surface, landscaping
the area around the field and
installing a sprinkler system.

“We are working to maintain
a first-class athletic program
with first-class facilities,” said
Miller. “We want our Uthietds
to be good students because
when recruiters come to. Norfih
