Thanks to radical groups like
PETA, Fund for Animals and
their kind, the way that the non
hunting public views us has
changed over the last few years.
It seems that I am constantly on
the defensive, explaining hunting
and the hunting lifestyle to peo
ple who very rarely even leave
the city.
I have had people ask why I
don’t get into sports such as rock
climbing, mountain biking,
kayaking and all of the other
sports of the “newly enlightened.”
My answer is that I don’t
choose to, but I see nothing
wrong with them doing it.
Man has been hunting for thou
sands of years, and even though it
is no longer necessary for food, it
is necessary for game manage
ment.
Instead of wasting my breath
trying to convert people whose
before setting the hook.
Bomber crank baits in baby
bass, shad and fire tiger colors
cast to the banks will get lots of
action. In the stained waters up
lake, this is a deadly technique
for shallow bass.
And don’t forget live lizards. A
bass cannot resist this easy meal
on a #1 weedless hook.
SPOTTED BASS can be
spawning, but they are deeper in
10 to 15 feet of water. These fish
spawn deeper on points and on
sandy areas and the warming sun
has them very active. These fish
are almost within sight in the
clear water down lake.
The area around Stouffer’s
resort on the docks and around
the rocks inside the no-wake
markers is loaded with spots.
Almost any color worms will
work and the green colors are
hot. Limeaide, watermelon seed,
and plain green will work on a
Texas rig.
Spots are usually hard to catch
on the Carolina rig because of
short striking lures. But this
month, use a short leader and fish
the underwater points and humps
at 15 feet.
STRIPERS are in the mouths
of the creeks, at the dam and up
the rivers and they are hungry.
Brown’s Bridge all the way up to
and above Gainesville’s Clarks
Bridge, flat-lining a medium
shiner 30 feet behind the boat
will draw a hungry striper or
even a bass to the baits.

beliefs are as engrained as mine,
my current response is to state
that hunting is legal in the state of
Georgia. However, harassing
hunters in the field just happens
to be illegal and carries with it a
stiff fine.
If that doesn’t shut them up, I
just excuse myself. It is pointless
to argue with fanatics.
The place to argue is with the
undecided. Hunters must actively
recruit others into the sport and
try to show hunting in a positive
light. Hunting is especially bene
ficial to children. A child who is
interested in hunting and/or fish
ing will very rarely get into trou
ble.
With the cost of quality hunting
land and experiences going up
daily, it is often difficult for many
parents to afford to take their
children hunting. But the benefits
outweigh the expense.
Good luck this spring and fall!
almost any color on a 1/4-ounce
jig head, will work in these same
areas. If there is an overcast day
in the near future’ head to Buford
Dam and cast Zara.
CRAPPIE are in the creeks and
are active. The fish are shallow
even up the creeks as they contin
ue to spawn. Live minnows,
grubs, tube baits and Hal Flies
are catching the fish all over the
lake.
Wood and boat docks are the
best areas, but there are some fish
on the lake’s bridges all day. Use
a small float and troll the back of
any coves and shallow flats at
three to five feet deep.
Marina docks are holding large
schools at five to eight feet,
depending on the clarity of the
water.
WHITE BASS are still in the
Chattahoochee River above
Clark’s Bridge, but they are mov
ing back down the river. Trolling
will still work and use the all
white Rooster Tail, small shad
colored Shad Raps and small all
white jigs.
Live bait is always excellent
once the fish are located. Try free
lining small to medium shiners
for stripers as well.
JUNE - Water temperatures
should be in the low-to-mid 80s.
BLACK BASS move in the
creeks and ledges and on the
main-lake points. Use floating
worms, stick baits and small
crank baits on light line for soft

strikes. Early and late each day,
use a Lunker Lure White buzz
bait with a silver blade on the
bank.
Using Zoom’s red shad worm
on a Texas rig works, but stay in
touch with the cover as long as
possible. Small curly-tail grubs
in white or chartreuse glitter on a
small jig 1/8-ounce head can get
a bass to bite.
Night fishing is good and the
points all over the lake are worth
fishing until midnight. Use
worms in dark colors and a u-tail
style will work best on a Texas

Owner offset hook and 10-pound
test Super Silver Thread line.
Later in the day, use a 1/4-

with the Super Flukes and swim

shiners, all-white Zoom Super
Flukes and all-white half-ounce
buck tail jigs.
The fish are biting best early
each morning and schools of fish
are chasing tiny shad. Use live
bait during the day in the mouths
of the creeks from Two Mile
Creek all the way down to Bald
Ridge Creek.
CRAPPIE fishing has been fair
and the fish are on docks and
bridges all over the lake. Look
for the fish deeper, even up lake
in the creeks. Use live minnows,
white curly-tail jigs, tube baits
and Hal Flies.
Wood and boat docks are good
areas for day and night fishing.
There are fish on the bridges all
day. Use a small float and troll
the back of any coves and shal
low flats at 7 to 14 feet deep.
Night fishing is fair up lake on
the docks and bridges. Be sure at
night to get lots of light out.
JULY - Water temperatures are
in the mid-to-upper 80s.
BLACK BASS are feeding
early and late and the night fish
ing is also good. Look on points
and creek channels for the sum
mer. Good locations are Flat and
Balus Creek as well as Little
River.
Use medium shad-colored crank
baits. Cast lures on any wood and
on shaded sides of the docks.
Later in the month, go to dark
colored worms and lizards.
Also add a 3/8-ounce spinner
bait with willow leaf and
Colorado blades, on any shallow
wood.
SPOTTED BASS are feeding
early and late on main-lake
points. Top water lures and buzz
baits on and over points and
humps are very good.
For the upper lake spots, use
worms and chartreuse or lime
curly-tail grubs will work on a
1/8-ounce jig head. Green and
sand finesse worms are also good
on Texas rig on points, both day
and night.
CRAPPIE are tight on bridges
and boat docks and night fishing
is at its best.
Live minnows and tiny hair jigs
on light line at 3 to 10 feet will
work. And look in the backs of
covers with slightly stained water
for them also.
Use the same lures/live baits.
Put out lots of light and send the
night.
STRIPERS will feed early and
late, as well as at night.
Humps off main-lake areas are
best and live minnows or bream
will work.
Stay on the lower lake. Watch
for any surface feeding at any
time especially early and late
during the week. Cast small buck
tail jigs at the schools.
