assist customers. Lummus also
attributes its low turnover rate to
the training program.
Four generations of the Lummus
family have been involved in the
business since it was formed in
1925 by Robert H. Lummus Sr.
Currently, 20 Lummus family
members are in the company’s
management, including: Robert
H. Lummus, grandfather, presi
dent; Robert H. Lummus Jr.,
father, CEO; William Lummus,
son, vice president of operations;
Bob Underwood, brother-in-law,
vice president of sales; Jackie
Barber, sister, secretary and trea
surer; Dianne Underwood, sister,
assistant secretary; and in the
fourth generation, Heidi Lummus,
commodities purchasing manager;
Brandon Underwood, human
resources director; and Reid
Lummus, who is currently in col
lege but works occasionally at the
business.
The 74-year-old company pro

Lanier Tech’s Accounting advisers
The Accounting program at
Lanier Technical Institute -
Forsyth Campus started in
October 1998 with the arrival of a
new instructor, Jo Ann Cory.
Classes began immediately and
the search for an advisory com
mittee began. Cory was very
impressed by the community’s
desire to be involved with the
school and participate on the
committee.
The committee has provided
input and suggestions to assist
with the establishment of the pro
gram. The first accounting stu
dents will complete their classes
and be ready for their internship
this summer. Several committee
members have volunteered to
provide this internship for our
students. Edwin Natic, the
President of the Advisory
Committee, has chosen an active
role and is teaching the Principles

Lanier Tech’s Development Studies advisory committee
The purpose of the Developmental Studies
Program at Lanier Tech is to provide academic
preparation for entry into occupational/technical
programs, offering students a sound background in
reading, English and math.
The role and function of the Developmental
Studies Advisory Committee is to provide expert
support to the Developmental Studies Program. The
Committee reviews the program and provides input
on items such as program objectives, instructional
materials, program content, and proficiency testing.
In addition to these responsibilities, the
Developmental Studies Advisory Committee has
become a means of establishing and maintaining a
communication link among area high schools,
potential students, and Lanier Tech - Forsyth
Campus. The Committee includes area High School
Guidance Counselors, Northeast Georgia Youth
Apprenticeship Coordinators, a representative from
the Department of Family and Children Services,
and a representative from the Forsyth County Adult
Learning Center.
It is our aim to provide these representatives with
information on program and course offerings, admis
sions procedures, financial aid information, and
other information beneficial to those interested in
attending Lanier Tech - Forsyth Campus. Through
the Developmental Studies Advisory Committee, the
