Friends of the Library provide support and resource backing
The Forsyth County Friends of
the Library (FOL) exists to sup
port the programs and resources
of dfluf local public library. The
cost of a 12-month individual
membership is $lO. The member
ship entitles the holder to gain
advance entry to the semi-annual
book sales sponsored by the FOL.

Piecemakers Quilt Guild showcases its
work at show, shares with Family Haven
The piecemakers Quilt Guild meets on the second
ueSday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at Bethelview
Jnited Methodist Church. A working “sewcial” bee
s held bn the fourth Tuesday of each month at the
amelocation.
All Quilters in Forsyth County are welcome to
ittend. Bring your quilts for “show and tell” and
tijoy good programs every month. For more infor

The semi-annual Quilt Show is scheduled for May
3, (4 and 15 at the Sawnee Community Center.

Members of the Guild have been very busy with
service projects during the year, making quilts for
every child who passes through Family Haven. The
children keep the quilts when they leave the Haven,
taking with them the remembrance that someone
really cares about them.

1) The FOL purchased each of
the items on the children services
“wish list” which included a
portable microphone speaker sys
tem, a portable puppet stage, pup
pets and posters.
• FOL sponsored the finale pro
gram for the Summer Reading
Club. Attendance in 1998 for
Summer Reading was up 139 per
cent.
• FOL members successfully
mobilized support for the renewal
of the SPLOST tax. A portion of
the local Special Purpose Local
Option Sales Tax is earmarked for
the purchase of additional library
sites and funding for the construc
tion costs of the Sharon Forks
Branch, due to open in the sum-

library activities such as the “All
Staff Shelf-Reading and Pizza
Party” in August, and a retirement
party for outgoing library board
member Melvin Stancil.
• FOL volunteers supplied many
hours each week throughout the
year assisting library staff with
specifically designated tasks.
• FOL purchased a table for the
foyer to be used for the display
flowers donated monthly by the
Cumming Garden Club.
• FOL operated a spring and fall
book sale. The book sale is the
main source of revenue for the
group, outside of membership
dues. Other revenue sources
include donations, sale of book
bags and convenient library card
