Janfest finds South Forsyth High
bandsmen at University of Georgia
Students from the South Forsyth High School
Symphonic Band recently attended “Janfest” at the
University of Georgia in Athens.
Janfest is a three-day workshop held in the month
of January by UGA’s Department of Music and is
attended by high school students from all over the
state and the Southeast. Students were first recom
mended by their school band director, Patrick
Denney. Then they were chosen by the university’s
FORSYTH COUNTY NEWS Sund»y, March 28.1999
music department.
Upon auditioning, students were placed in one of
six bands, each of which was directed under the
baton of renowned music directors from all over the
country.
After three days of diligent practice, a concert was
held featuring all six bands. Audiences thrilled to
their performances, resulting in standing ovations for
each band.
