has completed a DUI Detection
and Standardized Field Sobriety
• -Testing course taught by the
Georgia Police Academy
Division of the Georgia Public
’• Safety Training Center in
Forsyth.
; ‘ -This training program includes
<!• the observation techniques
involved in recognizing when a
driver may be operating a vehicle
under the influence of intoxi
cants. Patterns of driver behavior
and the more common driving
errors committed by drivers under
• the influence of intoxicants are
< ■ identified. Students are taught the
safe methods of stopping and
approaching a suspect driver and
?■< the observations to make in order
to determine if a driver is under
... the influence. Emphasis is placed
... on the proper manner in which to
administer field sobriety tests,

meet the standards of the
' National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration and the
; International Association of
; Chiefs of Police. Practical exer
i cises are conducted during the
i day and night, and are used to
the importance of a
proper response to this problem.

Strap ‘N Snap check yields several arrests and save lives
The first half of the seventh
wave of Strap ‘N Snap ended
Wednesday with the Forsyth
County Sheriff Office’s Traffic
Unit making 45 arrests over a
three day period.
“This has been one of the most
successful Strap ‘N Snap’s we’ve
had,” said Sheriff Denny Hendrix.
“We gave some tickets to people
who were not wearing seatbelts
and who did not have their chil-

hope we were able to save some
lives by making people aware that
not buckling up can mean the dif
ference between life and death.”
However, in addition to increas
ing suitability and child safety
restraint seat awareness, drivers
who were driving under the influ
ence of alcohol and drugs, drivers
with no license, and drivers who
were fugitives were also taken off
the roads during the three day
period. “We arrested 45 people on
charges ranging from driving
under the influence of drugs and
alcohol, driving without a license,
driving on a suspended license,
driving without insurance, posses
sion of marijuana, having an open
container, and being a habitual
violator,” Sheriff Hendrix said.
“These officers did an excep
tional job this week of making

sure we saved some lives,” said
Sheriff Hendrix. Officers held 13
road checks in 11 different loca
tions in the three day operation.
During the three day period,
officers involved in Strap ‘N Snap
made the following arrests:
11 - DUI of alcohol
26 - Drug arrests
5 - Wanted fugitives
3 - Other felony arrests
