On Monday, March 8, Chalcedon
Christian School broke ground for
its new Forsyth County location
on Post Road in the Midway com
munity.
Chalcedon Presbyterian Church,
established in Atlanta since 1974,
held a gala groundbreaking cere
mony which was open to the pub
lic. A growing congregation of
430 members and a Christian
school for children in grades K-12
are what Chalcedon brings to the
county.
“In order to accomplish the
Biblical purposes for which we
were established 25 years ago, we
have through the years created a
large variety of ministries to reach
the world with the gospel,” said
Joe Morecraft 111, minister,
explaining how the school was
formed.
The new Chalcedon school,
which was originally established
in 1982, will serve children from
Cumming, Canton, Alpharetta,
Roswell and Duluth. The big
move from the 7-acre property in
Dunwoody became necessary as
the school’s population has contin
ued to increase. The 42-acre prop
erty at 6711 Post Road is sched
uled to include an interim sanctu
ary and educational facility adding
up to 18,000 square feet.
Organizers hope to have construc
tion completed by August in time
for classes to begin in the 1999-
2000 academic year.
“Chalcedon Christian School
provides quality education in
every field of study, not only
because our teachers meet high
standards, but because we
approach every discipline from a
> Christ-centered, Bible-based per
• spective,” said Bob Lester, head
< master. “We believe firmly that Tn
Christ are hidden all the riches of
wisdom and knowledge,’
f (Colossians 2:3). The task of

Chalcedon Christian School does
not seek any state accreditation for
philosophical reasons. A member
ship has been maintained with the
Association of Christian Schools,
International (ACSI) since 1987,
which provides the school’s
accrediting standards. “The trans
ferability of Chalcedon’s academic
credits to private and state institu
tions and colleges has never been
denied. To date, 96 percent of our
graduates have been accepted into
institutions of higher education.
Among the schools accepting
Chalcedon graduates are Georgia
Tech, the University of Georgia,
Kennesaw State University, North
Georgia College & State
University, Covenant College,
ARTS & COMMUNITY
Berry College, Belhaven College,
Georgia Perimeter College and
Georgia State University.”
The Chalcedon staff includes 23
faculty members -18 of which are
full-time. Nearly 60 percent of
these teachers hold master’s
degrees and two have doctorates.
