has new ’99

Forsyth County racer Grant
Lockwood has picked up a new
factory sponsor for 1999: Honda
of America.
Lockwood and the Raceworks
team will be racing in the World
Challenge series and in select
Motorola Cup races. Other possi
bilities may include some of the
local club races, and a run at the
Longest Night 24-hour race in
Moroso, Florida at the end of the
year.
Lockwood has been racing for
nine years, starting out in road
racing Go-Karts and moving to
Mini Stocks at Lanier Raceway in
1994. By 1995, he began com
petiting in SCCA club racing
events (in Improved Touring, a
class for modified 4-cylinder
street cars).
In 1996, Lockwood did a stint
in Legends Cars, running in both
the local series and at the
Summer Shootout in Charlotte.
Starting in 1997, he began run
ning in selected professional
road races, mainly in the
Speedvision Cup series (a series
similar to Motorola Cup).
While Lockwood has not won
any championships, he has won
many races, and usually runs in
the top five wherever he goes. By
1998, he was preparing and run
ning his own Speedvision Cup
car, a Honda Civic del Sol
VTEC, which ran in the Compact
Class. This is where he began his

The Dixie Speedway has gotten
the racing season off to a good
start. Located on Hwy 92 in
Woodstock, the facility began its
schedule in late February and in
mid-March hosted the Pennzoil
World of Outlaws Sprint Cars
with a SIOO,OOO purse.
The regular season opener will
be April 10 with a full racing pro
gram featuring late model cars.
They will continue on April 17
and 24 and May 8.
On May 22, Dixie Speedway
will celebrate its 30th
Anniversary with a late model
feature race and a demolition
derby.
On Memorial Day Weekend,
there will be a double winners
purse in all divisions for top 10 in
the points race. Trophies will be
presented to all the champions.
On June 5, Hav-A-Tampa Super
Late Models will be racing for a
SIO,OOO-to-win purse. It will fea
ture a one-night show plus
bombers and super bombers. The
Pepsi 200 will be on June 26 with
$5,000 to the winner. There will
be fireworks and champions will
be crowned in all divisions.
July will be a busy month. On
July 10 and 24, Dixie will have a
full racing program and on the
24th, a demolition derby will take
place.
On August 7 and 21, Dixie
Speedway will again have a full
racing program and on the 21st
another demolition derby.
As fall approaches, Dixie
Speedway will be very busy. On
Sept. 11, a double winner purse
’ will be featured and several
added attractions are still being
planned and trophies will be
given to all winners.
On Sept. 18, in addition to a full
racing program, the Hav-A-
Tampa Shootout Prep Race will
take place.
On weekend of Oct. 8 and 9, the
10th Annual Hav-A-Tampa
Shootout will be held, with a
$200,Q00 purse with SBO,OOO to

relationship with Honda of
America.
This year, Lockwood has just
acquired a race-ready Honda
Prelude to race in the Touring
class in World Challenge. His
goals for this year are to win at
least one race and finish in the
top five in points. Lockwood
may also run a limited number of
Motorola Cup endurance races,
with his brother and co-driver
Sam.
Sam, while older than his broth
er, only began racing in 1994. He
has experience in Mini Stocks,
Legends Cars, Improved Touring
Cars, and co-drove in the 1998
Speedvision Cup Races in the
Raceworks Honda del Sol. He
also co-drove in the 1998 24-
hour race at Moroso.

Grant does the mechanic and fab
rication work, while Sam handies
the graphic/decal work and does
the accounting.

Tickets will go on sale May 1.
The Oct. 15 and 16 weekend
will have monster truck racing
each night. Friday night will be
“Family Night” and kids will be
admitted free. The Monster Truck
Nationals will be held and
Bigfoot wilfbe featured.
On Saturday, Nov. 13, the Bill
Ingram Memorial Race for super
late models will be held and
SIO,OOO will go to the winner,
plus championships will be held
in all divisions.
On Sunday, Nov. 14, the season
will end with a full racing pro
gram.

Jerry Glanville is
ready for more m

Jerry Glanville still calls
Cumming home for his
Glanville Motorsports, Inc. This
year he will again be competing
against some of the finest racing
teams in the business.
Glanville competes with a
Monte Carlo in the Bush Grand
Nationals, a Ford - 150 in the
Super Truck Series and a
Thunderbird to compete in the
races sponsored by Hooters.

garage and in the pits are the

Motorsports,” Glanville said

the cars and in the papers, but
they make sure I get there.
Without the help of a lot of peo
ple, Glanville Motorsports
would not compete the way we
do.”
The shop of the racing team is
small and spotless. Every part
of the facility is utilized. When
Glanville is at the shop, he
works on the automobiles just

The big black trailer with a hat
and sunglasses have been,a
trademark of Glanville through
out his racing career and he
keeps it parked in front of .the
shop.
When the team travels, across
the United States, Glanville
helps drive the trailer. When
they arrive at the track, he helps
prepare the vehicles for the cry
of “Start your engines ” , „
Last season
Glanville was
injured ancj still
has some pain
on his side, but
overall the team
and Glanville
are ready.
The team has
already traveled
to Las Vegas
and was scheduled to race'in
Jefferson on March 20 and
Phoenix, Ariz. on March 27.
On April 17, he will compete
in the Hooter’s race in Myrtle
Beach, S.C.
In May, Glanville Motorsports
will compete in Fontana, Caljf.
on the Ist, at Colorado Springs,
Colo., on the 16th, and
Jefferson, Ga. on the 22nd ajid
29th.
In June the team will be at
Dover, Del. on the sth and at
Lakeland, Fla. on the 12th. Over
the July 4th weekend, the
Glanville Motorsports team will
be in Milwaukee, Wis., on. the
14th, Jefferson, Ga. and on the
24th, Colorado Springs.
