SATURDAY
JUNE 17, 2000
5:30 p.m. DISNEY
Even Stevens
Young Louis Stevens has a hard act to
follow. A high-powered lawyer and a
state senator for parents, a star athlete for
a big brother, and Miss Perfect for a sis
ter. But this resourceful middle schooler
has found his own way to stand out Be a
wild and crazy guy, much to sister Ren’s
constant embarrassment. Sharp new
comer Shia La Beouf (a recent ER guest
star) plays Louis in this kid-friendly new
sitcom, with Christy Romano (Everyone
Says I Love You) as Ren, Nick Spano as
big brother Donnie, and Donna Pescow
and Tom Virtue as their folks.
Obsessed With Vertigo
This 1997 special fits right in with this
year’s Hitchcock-heavy edition of
AMC’s Film Preservation Festival. All
about the making and restoration of
Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 suspense clas
sic, it features interviews with
Hitchcock’s daughter, fellow director
Martin Scorsese, and some of the
movie’s stars, including Kim Novak and
Barbara Bel Geddes. The special is fol
lowed by a screening of the film, the tale
of a height-hating cop (James Stewart)
pulled out of retirement to tail a friend’s
wife. Roddy McDowall narrates.

The Story of Fathers & Sons
More than 50 men and boys -- some
famous, some not - talk about life with
Father, and life as one, in this special
from 1999. The stories are personal, but
some touch on social concerns, including
teen-age fatherhood, fatherless homes
and the challenges of caring for aging
parents.

Movie: Alice in Wonderland
Brilliant casting and a faithfulness to
Lewis Carroll’s writing not seen in other
recent adaptations make this 1999 rnade
for-TV Alice a winner. Tina Majorino
(Waterworld) stars as the girl who falls
down a rabbit hole into a world of weird
ness, where she meets such odd charac
ters as the Cheshire Cat (Whoopi
Goldberg), the Mad Hatter (Martin
Short), the Mock Turtle (Gene Wilder)
and the Red Queen (Miranda
Richardson). George Wendt also stars.

A&ETopIO
Jack Russell terriers, Dalmatians and
Chihuahuas are the hot dogs, thanks to a
couple of TV series, a movie and a fast
food commercial. But these breeds are
absent from A&E’s list of “Dogs for the
Family,” which leans toward the old
favorites: Labs and golden retrievers,
German shepherds, poodles and beagles,
to name a few. If you’re considering
adding a four-footed family member,
here’s a good place to start thinking
