Voters go back to polls Aug. 8
Voters in Forsyth County go
back to the polls on Aug. 8 to
settle six Republican races that
ended in runoffs last month. The
Forsyth County Voter Registrar’s
Office wants residents to be as
knowledgeable about the process
as possible. Below is important
information about the upcoming
elections.

Where do you
vote?
If you have questions about
which precinct you should go to
on Election Day, please call the
Voter Registrar's Office at (770)
781-21 18. Please do not send
emails asking which precinct
you vote in because we cannot
guarantee you an answer prior to
Tuesday’s vote.
Construction is ongoing at a
number of schools that serve as
voting precincts, but all those
precincts will be open on
Election Day. Voters should have
no problems getting into or out
of these locations.
Who’s running
Forsyth County residents will
decide six races that were left in
runoffs on July 18. Those races
include:
• State House District 28:
Tom Knox, Dana Miles. (The
winner is unopposed in
November.)
• Sheriff: Denny Hendrix
(fricumbent), Ted Paxton. (The
winner faces Democrat Jimmy
L. Waters in November.)
• Chief Magistrate: Jerry
Adams, Barbara Cole. (The win
ner is unopposed in November.)
• Board of Commissioners
District 4: Marcie Kreager, John
Tanner. (The winner is unop
posed in November.)

Forsyth County Water & Sewer
Department customers must abide by manda
tory outdoor watering restrictions. No outdoor
watering of any kind is allowed from 5 a.m.
until 10 p.m. seven days a week.
In addition, customers must follow an odd
even system for water use during the allowable
hours.
Here’s how it works:
■ If you have an odd-numbered street
address, you may water on odd-numbered
dates from midnight until 5 a.m. and from 10
p.m. until midnight.
■ If you have an even-numbered street
address, you may water on even-numbered
dates from midnight until 5 a.m. and from 10
p.m. until midnight.
If you have questions, call the Water &
Sewer Department at (770) 781-2160.
For the next few weeks, we'll share with
j*ou some tips on how you can save water. This
week, we present ways you can conserve on
water use around the house, courtesy of the
Cooperative Extension Service.
* ■ When you brush your teeth, don't let the
water keep running. Instead, half fill a glass
and use that water to wet your brush and rinse

Anyone who was registered to vote by June 19 is eligible to
vote in the August 8 runoff EXCEPT people who voted using a
Democratic ballot on July 18. Those people cannot vote in
this Republican primary runoff.
• Board of Commissioners
District 5: Ron Seder, Eddie
Taylor. (The winner faces
Democrat Donna Parrish in
November.)
• Board of Education District
5: Nancy Roche, Tom Slaughter.
(The winner is unopposed in
November.)
Who can vote
Because this is a runoff elec
tion, not everyone is eligible to
vote on Aug. 8.
Here’s how it will work:
• If you were registered to
vote by June 19, you are eligible
to vote in the Aug. 8 runoff,
regardless of whether you voted
on July 18.
The only exception is that
those voters who chose a
Democratic ballot are not eligi
ble to vote in the Republican
runoff.
They would be eligible only
if there was a Democratic
runoff, which there is not.
• If you have questions about
whether you can vote Tuesday,
your mouth.
■ When you shave or wash your hands, do
not let the water run. Fill the basin and dip
your razor or hands as needed.
■ Don’t flush the toilet unnecessarily. Each
flush uses five to seven gallons of water.
Throw tissues, insects and other trash into the
wastebasket, not the toilet.
■ Turn the shower off while your shampoo
your hair.
■ Bathe small children together.
■ Turn faucets off completely to avoid
drips and slow leaks
■ Take short shpwers, not baths. Limit
showers to five minutes or less.
■ Install flow restrictors on individual
water fixtures like shower heads and faucets.
They automatically reduce flow and aerate the
water.
■ When you take a bath, only partially fill
the tub. A good rule is five inches.
■ As you wait for shower water to heat up,
collect the cold water in a bucket for watering
plants.
■ Reduce the amount of water the toilet
uses to filling a one-gallon plastic container
with water and putting it in the tank to displace

There are several reasons
allowed for voting absentee:
• You will be absent from
your precinct on Election Day
from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. (This
provision does not apply if you
live in one county and work in
another. Employers are allowed
by law to let you off for two
hours for voting on Election Day
if there is not adequate time out
side your working hours for you
to get to the polls.)
• You have a physical disabil
ity.
• You are a caregiver for a
physically disable person.
• You are an election official
who will be working in a differ
ent precinct from where you
vote.
