Neighbors face off over proposed home business
By Phillip Hermann
News Editor
A proposal to operate a pool
service sales office in a home in
the Gentry Meadows subdivision
resulted in a sometimes heated
neighbor v. neighbor dispute at
the Aug. 29 public hearing before
ihe Forsyth County Planning
Commission.
Resident Carolyn Hall, also the
owner of the Young Guns Inc.
pool service company, has applied
to the county for a permit to run
the business from her home at
7420 Gentry Way.
A She told the planning commis
sion there will only be herself and
a secretary working in the home,
adding there will be no customer
contact resulting in more traffic
for the neighborhood.

allowed to speak on the record about the dis
charge plan.
Gwinnett County officials and supporters
of the plan have said it’s necessary to pro
vide enough sewerage capacity for that
county’s continuing development, both resi

Opponents, led by members of the Lake
Lanier Association, say the EPD shouldn’t
be in the business of finding ways to worsen
the lake’s water quality but should work to

Each ranger carries a supply of cards with his

they almost get mobbed,” said Williams.
works for the company, Peggy
Bright, spoke in favor of recom
mending approval of the permit.
A host of Hall’s neighbors,
however, were far from enamored
with the idea.
Jim McClure, president of the
Gentry Meadows Homeowners
Association, said a home business
is not permitted under the
covenants established by the asso
ciation. He added allowing the
sales use would present an “aggra
vation” to neighbors.
McClure alleged the business
is already established and is being
run in violation of the county’s
zoning law and the covenants. He
added neighbors have reported
seeing up to eight vehicles parked
on the street in front of the home.
Resident Kevin Taylor voiced
opposition, saying he has seen
these vehicles are not affected by
the recall, Allen said, because
their ABS were manufactured by
Wabco, not Bendix.
As of Tuesday afternoon,
International had not yet ordered a
safety recall of the electronic con
trol unit of the Bendix anti-lock
ensure that quality will improve.
LLA members say the adding of treated
wastewater to the lake will serve as a source
of pollutants.
EPD officials said this week the agency
is hosting the hearing to provide answers
and clarification about the draft permit and
to get formal comments from the public.
Because the EPD can’t consider land use
or zoning issues during the permit process,
the public hearing and the information ses
sion will be limited to information and com
ments on water quality issues only.
