Geographic Information Day to be observed Wednesday From staff reports Wednesday is GIS Day in Forsyth County. That is, Geographic Information Systems Day. A GIS is a computer sys tem of geographically refer enced information, and it is used in a myriad of ways in this county. Many contractors with which the county has worked will have displays to demon strate how the system has been utilized locally. A reception and presenta tion will be given in the Board of Commissioners meeting room from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Kilgore said the public is invited. Police plan crackdown on seatbelt compliance over Thanksgiving From staff reports More than 500 law enforcement agencies across Georgia, including local police, will step up enforcement of seatbelt and child restraint laws around the Thanksgiving holiday. The heightened attention to motorist compliance with seatbelt laws is in connec tion with the national “Click It or Ticket” pro gram. It will run from Nov. 18 to Dec. 1. The enforcement blitz comes as new data show that more men and women in uniform die in traffic crashes than any other cause. Other items to be dis cussed at the library board meeting include the system’s customer service policy and long-term care insurance for employees. The public is invited to attend.
