QUEEN from 1A
“I did a little of everything
bhck then. At least, I tried to.”
Wyatt Willingham said he
has seen a lot of changes in the
business over the years
from the popularity of Dairy
Queen staples in the ‘6os, such
as Soft Serve DQ and Dilly
Bars, to the hip Peanut Buster
Parfaits of the ‘7os, right on
up to today’s top seller, the
blizzard.
While the menu has often
changed, one thing unique
about this particular operation
is the longevity of many of its
employees. Among the staff of
20, half a dozen have at least
10 years of service.
“We have great people,
that’s for sure,” Wyatt
Willingham noted. “It’s kinda
tough in this business, but we
have a lot of the same folks we
have had for years.”
Indeed.
Sarah Smith has been with
the Willinghams for 35 years.

Move over, kitty
Black cats may have dibs on Halloween. But move
over, kitties. Saturday is “Black Dog Adoption Day” in
Forsyth County. The Forsyth County Humane Society
is sponsoring the event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
Petsmart off Marketplace Boulevard in Cumming.
Looking for new homes in time for the holidays will be
both puppies and adult dogs.
SAFE from 1A
nvest in strong security sys

during the holiday season.
‘‘December is the busiest
month in the restaurant indus
try, so we try to stay on high
alert,” he said.
Capt. Frank Huggins, pub
lic information officer at the
Forsyth County Sheriff’s
Office, said the investigation is
continuing into the burglaries.
The sheriff’s office will be
increasing patrols during the
employee who recently passed
away, had worked at DQ for
33 years. Her daughter Jan has
been there almost 30 years.
“We are very lucky in
terms of customer support and
employees very fortunate,”
Wyatt Willingham said.
Three generations of
Willinghams now call the
restaurant their professional
home and, with the state-of
the-art facility going up right
next door, the family’s busi
ness is likely to remain a local
tradition for generations to
come.'
The final cone was served
in the original Dairy Queen
building on Sunday. The new
location, which is roughly
triple the size of the old
restaurant, is set to open in
two weeks.
“We need the weather to
cooperate,” said Wyatt
Willingham. “But tell every
body we will be back real
soon.”

which might present opportu

“As the holiday season
approaches, we’re paying spe
cial attention to businesses and
residences to prevent any
extraordinary crimes from
happening,” he said.
Anyone with any informa

asked to call the Forsyth
County Sheriff’s Office at

Here's the scoop
Cumming’s Dairy Queen is moving into a brand new building adjacent to the old one on Hwy. 9. The old building is being
bulldozed to make a larger parking area for the new store.
