FORSYTH COUNTY NEWS Sunday, February 1,2004
FREES from 1A
ordinance quit to pursue other
endeavors in the same field.
Wallace said the ordinance
is intended to place tree
requirements on major subdi
visions and commercial
developments.
“Typically [a major subdi
vision] is seven lots,” he said.
“I think that the ordinance
might be a little unclear in
that aspect. Staff’s intention
is to recommend changes to
the commissioners that will
clarify some of those issues.”
“Our intention is certainly
that it will not apply to indi
vidual [home owners],” he
said. “The intention of the
Planning Department is to
clarify that so that there is no
misunderstanding.”
If approved, the revised
tree ordinance would require
new developments in the
county to retain or plant a
variety of trees throughout a
new subdivision or commer
cial development.
The ordinance would
require compliance in order
to obtain a Certificate of

The registrar’s office began
taking absentee ballots last
week.
Also included on the ballot
are referendums for a preferred

lion to construct a new court
house, jail and parking deck in

Though the Let’s Build It
Campaign Committee had

ty of the project those meet
ings have been reduced to two.
The committee will conduct
the first of those meetings Feb.
12 at Otwell Middle School; the
second is scheduled for Feb. 26
at South Forsyth Middle School.
Each meeting will begin at 7
p.m.
The committee also accepts
questions and provides informa
tion through its Web site at
www.letsbuildit.net.
Also on the ballot is a choice
between the current state flag

Legislators in 2003 changed
the flag to the one that now

by 13 white stars on a blue back
ground in the upper left comer.
Beneath the state emblem are
the words “In God We Trust.”
Voters who choose to vote on
