Valentine’s Day bodes well for retailers

Valentine’s Day means big busi
ness for Forsyth County florists and
gift shops as friends and lovers seek
to please that certain special some
one.
This will be Chris Letter’s third
Valentine’s Day since she took over
as the owner of Bailey’s Floral
Creations.
She said the holiday brings more
business to her shop on Buford
Highway than any other time of the
year.

The Cumming-Forsyth County
Chamber of Commerce installed its
new board members and officers and
honored outstanding members during
its 49th annual meeting Saturday.
The group also honored many of
its past board chairpersons during a
Chairman’s Walk to commemorate
the group’s 50th anniversary.
The event at the Sawnee Cultural
Arts Center in Cumming drew more
than 500.
Mark Hamilton of H&H Staffing
was installed as board chairman for
2004. He took the gavel from 2003
chairman Tim Perry of Citizens Bank
of Forsyth County.
Other officers for 2004 include
Andrew Walker of First National
Bank of Forsyth County, 2005 chair
man-elect and David Rapson of
Sun Trust Bank, secretary/treasurer.
Pam Sessions of Hedgewood
Properties is the 2006 chairman-elect;
Annual awards went to:
• Ambassador/Diplomat of the

On average, Bailey said she sells
an average of 6,000 roses on
Valentine’s Day in a variety of colors
with red roses by the dozen being
the most popular.
“Tulips and lilies are other hot
flowers sold on Valentine’s Day,”
Lotter said.
Though wholesalers increase the
price of roses about three times dur
ing this period of the year, Lotter
said she tries not to pass that cost to
her customers.
“Most of my customers are repeat
customers,” Lotter said. “I try and

has only been in business a month,
but said Valentine’s Day orders have
been good.
“We have had a lot of people
coming in for Valentine’s Day and
placing orders to make sure they’re
going to have their presents,” she
said.
