Woman's Club aids mountain
preservation
The Sawnee Woman’s Club recently presented a
check to the Sawnee Mountain Preservation
Association for use by the association in its efforts
to maintain the pristine beauty of the mountain. The
funds were generated by a shopping night at The
Chandlery of Roswell, where 10 percent of the
sales were donated to the club. In addition to mak
ing a contribution, the club has pledged its hands
on assistance with the preservation efforts.
Pictured are Lollie Sertich (left) the conservation
chairman for the club, and Mary Helen McGruder
of the Sawnee Mountain Preservation Association.
Forsyth Senior
Expo is Saturday
From Staff Reports
The Forsyth Senior Center
will sponsor its second
Forsyth Senior Exposition at
the Central Park Recreation
Center next Saturday.
The event offers a variety
of services and information to
Forsyth’s growing senior pop

Johnson, director of the Senior
Center.
The event will include
complimentary health screen
ings for blood pressure, glu
cose, cholesterol, and hearing.
No fasting is necessary for the
health screenings.
The event has not gone
unnoticed by local business
who offer services to seniors.
“Seniors have tremendous
buying power,” said Johnson.
“In many cases, they have a
higher amount of disposable
income.”
The exhibitors offer free
consultations on a variety of
services, from financial plan
ning to recreation. The group
will include both business
entities as well as a number of

“Many of our seniors have
moved here to be near their
adult children,” said Jackie
Collins of the Senior Center.
She said that monthly partici

than doubled in the past few
years.
The center, located on
Dahlonega Highway, offers an
outlet for recreation and fel

lar clients of the center. The
center also operates a Meals
on Wheels program, which
provides a nutritious lunch
either at the center, or deliv

homebound.
The Expo will take place
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Recreation Center at Central
Park, which is located on
Keith Bridge Road (Highway
306) near Exit 17 on Georgia

leading to the site. There is no
admission charge.
The event, which drew a
crowd of more than 500 last
year, is being sponsored by
