Plugger shoe shine.
Alcohol fuels fire between parent, teenager
DEAR ABBY: I am a normal 13-year-old
kid. I play soccer and the saxophone
and am serious about both.
Lately. I’m noticing my mom’s
drinking. She threatens all kinds of
things at night: no soccer, no sax, no
social lite. She gets argumentative
and repeats herself. We’ve been get
ting into fights because she forgets
things and says things she doesn't
mean.
The other night, she grabbed and I
pushed me. When I told her to stop, she said
she has nothing to lose, but I do.
Plus my dad is kind of timid, so he goes
along with whatever she says. HELP!
CRAZY IN COLORADO
DEAR CRAZY: Your mother’s drinking is
out of control, and her behavior is destruc
tive. Your father probably hopes that if he
ignores it, it will go away. Please clip this
letter and give it to him. He needs to contact
Al-Anon, and you should attend some
Alateen meetings.
Alateen is a fellowship of young people
whose lives have been affected" by someone
else's drinking. An active adult member of
Al-Anon serves as a sponsor for each group.
The number for both Al-Anon and Alateen is
(888) 425-2666. and the Web site for both is
www.al-anon.alateen.org.
DEAR ABBY: 1 -ast summer, my high school
sweetheart and I linked up again at our class
reunion. We live in different states. A few
months later. 1 visited her. Two months after
that, she came to visit me for a week. We got
along great.
We talk constantly and are in love with
each other all over again. Neither of us has
children or other obligations. She has agreed

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY
(March 4). You’ve got quiet
confidence, which inspires
others to give you big oppor
tunities this year, h’s exhila
rating to be trusted with more
than even you think you can
handle —a dream come true,
hut you must rise to the occa
sion. Capricorn and Taurus
are stabilizing and supportive.
Romance introduces you to a
new social realm this summer.
Your lucky numbers are: 6.
22.30.51 and 9.
ARIES (March 21 -April
19). The drive to be noticed
presses you forward more
than higher-minded motiva
tions. but the result is the
same. You do excellent work.
There’s much to appreciate in
the way of art and culture.
You’re richer for taking the
time.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20).
On this eclectic day, surpris
ing twists are in store. Your
crowd is filled with interesting
characters. Friends have weird
requests. If the time commit
ment isn’t too great, just say
“yes." It’s good, clean fun
with a funny story later.

ing keeping her in the town where she lives,
1 see no reason why she shouldn’t relocate to
yours. Her friends mean well, I’m sure, but
they are not the ones who should be deciding
whether her decision is too hasty, and 1 think
they should butt out.
DEAR ABBY: 1 have been dating "Andre"
since I was 12 and he was 13. We are now 26
and 27. Like any couple, we’ve had argu
ments. He’s also cheated on me. We have
three children. He also has four children
with other women.
I am confused, Abby. We have a lot of
trust issues. 1 have my guard up all the time.
1 love him. He was my first sexual partner. 1
want to get married, but I can’t help thinking
he’s going to cheat again.
How can 1 learn to trust him totally?
C.D. IN CHICAGO
DEAR C.D.: Being of sound mind and
body, that would be impossible. Your
boyfriend has proven at least four times that
he is not trustworthy in the fidelity depart
ment. Thirteen years of this distrust and tor
ture are enough already. If I were you. I’d
talk to a lawyer, establish child support and
let him go. He may be 27, but he still hasn’t
grown up.
Under the stars ’ gaze
GEMINI (May 21-June
21) You’re an uplifting
influence. Devotion to some
one underprivileged makes
you feel happy. When you
give quietly, your heart is
filled. Tonight is filled with
laughter. A Cancer or Libra
provides reasons to cele
brate.
CANCER (June 22-July
22) You not only accept
human differences and limi
tations; you embrace them.
Out of these frailties come
your best ideas, inventions,
solutions, moneymaking
plans and so on. Luck is
associated w ith a flight.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22).
Transformation starts with
using your time differently.
Taking care of the needs of
others is noble work, but not
if you'll resent it later. Make
sure you also explore your
passion. If you have no life,
you have nothing to give.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22).
Volatile emotions have you
in their throes, but you're too
smart to let that influence
your game. Practice being
likeable, whether you’re in
the mood for people or not.
Your strong character is
sexy.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23).
You may not think your life
is terribly interesting, but it
is. Tell everyone what you're
up to. and put a fabulous
spin on it while you're at it.
The public-relations effort is
lucky for your finances and
love life as well.
and let nature take its course. I
can’t see myself without her. Her
friends think she might be acting
too hastily. Do you think we need
more time? We are both 38 and
are ready to spend our lives
together. What do you think?
CONFUSED IN KEN
TUCKY
DEAR CONFUSED: You are
both adults. Since there is noth-
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov.
21). There's a poignancy to
your mood. If you cpuld sit in
one place and watch this day
pass in real time, you'd see
how beautiful life really is.
Tonight, your romantic ges
ture brings the outcome you
hoped for.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-
Dec. 21). Think big. and act
in broad strokes. Strangely,
major problems can easily be
cleared up today, but minor
ones need a delicate hand and
more time. With great faith,
you can move mountains.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan.
19) When the deal doesn’t
go down the way you wanted
-it to. self-examination will
help you use the setback to
your advantage. Determine
what you can do to make
yourself more deserving of
the next opportunity.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb.
18). A playful spirit helps
you move through heavy situ
ations with levity and grace.
If you want Lady Luck to
visit you. you must first trust
your own instincts and intu
itions. Concentration
improves; students make a
breakthrough.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March
20) If you've forgotten how
to love your work and work
at what you love, a Scorpio or
Leo helps you get back on
track. Your social life thrives
while you're expanding your
career horizons. Give
respectable people the benefit
of the doubt.
