Parkway Protest
Above, Molly Bryant, 6, on Thursday shows her disdain outside
South Forsyth Middle School for the planned construction of
Windermere Parkway. Top right, residents of the Three Chimneys
community maintain the board of commissioners misled them last
year. Days before a countywide election to extend a 1 percent sales
tax, commissioners agreed the road would be two lanes. However,
after voters approved the sales tax, the board included a median in
project plans. Current designs for the road indicate that median will
be 44 feet wide —a width the residents say will allow county officials
to easily widen the road at some future date. Residents criticized
County Engineering Director John Cunard and County Commission
Chairman Jack Conway for the change in roadway plans. Bottom
left, Commissioner A.J. Pritchett talks to a protestor. Pritchett voted
against the project plans. Bottom right, Sharon Forrest, a Three
Chimneys resident, lets her thoughts be known.
