2nd annual Taste of Forsyth set to begin April 18
Great food, live entertainment, arts
and crafts and good of fashioned family
fun are on tap next month when Forsyth
County Family Haven hosts its second
annual Taste of Forsyth event at the
Cumming Fairgrounds Amphitheater on
Sunday. April 18 from noon until 5 p.m.
The highlight of the day will be the
opportunity to taste an array of select
menu items from many of the local
restaurants in Forsyth County. "Tasting
tickets" will be sold at the door.
All proceeds from the event will be
donated to Family Haven to help it con
tinue to operate a Forsyth and North
Fulton counties only emergency shelter
for battered women and children to aid
in its effort to assist victims of domestic

Young leukemia victim and sister recovering at home
Greg Wallace, an employee
of the Forsyth County
Planning and Development
Department reports that his
son. Josh, and daughter. Jesi.
are recovering nicely after
recent surgery.
Josh, who is 11 years old.
was diagnosed with leukemia
in 1999. For three years, he
was forced to endure the
painful chemotherapy treat
ments.
The disease went into
remission for a while and the
youngster was allowed to stop
taking the treatment.
Unfortunately, he suffered
a relapse shortly before
Christmas and doctors said he
would need a bone marrow
transplant.
As fate would have it. his
13-year-old sister Jesi was a
perfect match and she bravely
stepped up to the plate for her
little brother.
Josh’s mother. Samantha,
said recently that he was still
having some pain a few days
after the operation, but was

The Alzheimer’s caregivers
support group will meet on
Monday, March 15 at 2 p.m. at
the Forsyth County Senior center.
This informative program will
be presented jointly by Legacy
Link and Care Partners At Home.
Seating is limited.
Alzheimer's disease is a pro
gressive. degenerative disease of
the brain and the most common
form of dementia. Statistics show
an estimated 4.5 million
Americans have Alzheimer’s dis
ease.
By 2050, health experts esti
mate that the prevalence of
Alzheimer's disease will impact
11.3 million Americans.

woman she’s ready to go
shopping again. "You can’t
keep a good girl down." her
mother said.
Samantha also reported
that Josh had a great time
reading all the messages he
received from friends and
acquaintances. "He doesn't
reply a lot, but he reads each
and every message so please
keep them coming." she said.
The Wallaces know that
their son still has a tough bat
tle ahead and that he will
require a lot of strength and
patience, especially in the next
few weeks, but they wanted
everyone to know how grateful
they are for the prayers and
well wishes they have received
from so many people in the
community.

Alzheimer’s victims live at home.
Almost 75 percent of the
home care is provided by family
and friends.
The remainder is "paid" care
costing an average of $12,500 per
year.
Families pay almost all of that
out of pocket expense.
