Cowboy Mouth rocks Atlanta, “The Full Monty” plays the Fox

On the town
Last week was an incredi
ble week for rock on the
town.
Between Cowboy Mouth
last Friday and The Linkin’
Park Meteora tour on
Saturday the weekend
was one great time.
First off, hats off to Fred
Leßlanc and Cowboy Mouth
who put on one incredible
show at the Roxy.
Cowboy Mouth continues
to be one of my favorite
bands, and Leßlanc is with
out a doubt one of the most
infectious performers out
there.
Good lead singing drum
mers are hard to find, but
Leßlanc brings it to a whole
new level.
He hooks the crowd and
involves them in every song
with his relentless energy.
That combined with
Cowboy Mouth’s New
Orleans style party rock
translates into fun.
Their new CD "Uh-Oh” is
great and even treads into a
few unexpected areas,
including the opener
“Tomorrow Never Comes,” a
Beatles remake with just a
twinge of punk.
It sounds great live, with
songs like the title track
interspersed with Cowboy
Mouth classics like “Jenny
Says,” “Everybody Loves
Jill," and “Hurricane, Party."
If none of those songs
sound familiar you are badly
in need of a Cowboy Mouth
catch up. and you can start
with any of their live CD’s.
As always Cowboy
Mouth heightens the live
experience at the Roxy; they
even topped themselves.

The next night. Linkin
Park came to Philips Arena
with their "Meteora" tour
with guests Story of the Year.
Hoobastank. and P.O.D.
It was the last night of the
tour and the bands spent the
entire night hazing each other,
coming out with blow-up
dolls, disassembling equip
ment in the middle of sets,
and other shenanigans.
Story of the Year started
off the night with a set that
was hard to beat.
To say they warmed up the
crowd would be an under
statement.
The band blew away a sur
prising amount of fans that
showed up early.
The band’s CD “Page
Avenue” is an awesome lis
ten. but it was the live experi
ence that sold me.
The five piece band is
fronted by the adept Dan
Marsala and the band was
beyond energetic, spinning
guitars and even doing flips
off of the speakers.
They played “Until the
Day I Die," “Anthem Os Our
Dying Day,” and even did a
cover of Metallica’s “Enter
Sandman.”
Hoobastank was up next.
Their new CD "Reason" is
one of my newest favorites,
and in the studio, the band has
a strong sound.

Control" the CD has legs.
Douglas Robb sounded
great live, and he spent much
of the set on top of a five foot
rectangular column in the
center of the stage, w hich was
neat, but slightly distracting
because we couldn't see the
drummer.
From there. P.O.D. the
crossover rap-metal Christian
band that headlined Ozzfest,
filled the arena with sounds
from their latest self titled CD
“Payable on Death."
The band gets their mes
sage across with raw power,
but isn't afraid to slow it
down for a few minutes for
anthems like their hit "Youth
of a Nation.”
Linkin Park proved their
metal as headliners and shook
Philips Arena to its core.
I really love this band; see
ing them swell from a grass
roots fan base that propelled
them to Ozzfest and beyond
has been one of music's most
incredible success stories, and
it was inspiring to see Philips
Arena filled to the brim with
fans.
Their rap-rock electronica
remains unique and relevant
and there are few acts that
hold a candle to them live.
It was really a great night
and a perfectly packaged tour.
All four of the acts will be
back in town between now
and August.
Hoobastank plays Roxy on
March 20. Story of the Year
will rock the Cotton Club on
March 21. PO D. hits the
Taberbacle on May 16, and
Linkin Park will be coming in
August as part of the "Projekt
Revolution" tour which also
features The Used, Snoop
Dogg, and Korn.
Story of the Year was also
among the initial line-up for
this year’s Music Midtown
along with the Foo Fighters.
Journey. REO Speedwagon.
George Clinton. Steve Miller.
Puddle of Mudd, Fountains of
Wayne and many more

“THE FULL MONTY” - the
smash Broadway musical
based on the film is at the Fox
this week and has been hailed
as a textbook example of get
ting screen to stage adapta
tions right.
Like the movie, the play
will deliver a night of pure
fun after all isn’t that
