Riding Safely in Child
Care
... Are you a child care
provider? If so. plan on
attending our upcoming train
ing. Riding Safely in Child
Care (for Child Care Providers
only). This training is spon
sored by the University of
Georgia Cooperative
Extension Service, Forsyth
County office, Georgia Traffic
Injury Prevention Institute and
the Governor’s Office of
Highway Safety. The training
will be Monday, April 19.
from 7-9 p.m. Check in begin
ning at 6:30 p.m. at the
Sawnee Cultural Arts Center
in Cumming.
Participants will receive
two hours of DHR accepted
credit (ECE-2). The cost of
the program is S 3 per person.

Riding Safely in Child
Care was developed in
Georgia specifically to
increase aw areness of the need
for child care providers to
transport children using cur
rent best practice recommen
dations. This two hour training
addresses the following topics:
Georgia law. crash dynamics,
types of seats, gross misuse,
liability issues, and resources
available in local regions.
The instructors for the
course will be Griggs Wall,
Regional Coordinator with the
Georgia Traffic Injury
Prevention Institute and
myself, Debbie Wilburn.
University of Georgia
Cooperative Extension
Service, County Agent for
Forsyth and Hall counties.

Elementary PTO
... will host a community
festival and thrift sale at the
school on Holtzclaw Road on
Saturday, April 17. There will
be a moon jump, kids games
and prizes, food, drinks, a raf
fle, a presentation by the
school chorus, a live band and
thrift sale treasures. The thrift
sale will be from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. and the festival from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. The rental fee
for a parking space with a

plants are grown locally by
members of each organization
and include perennials, herbs,
ground covers and shrubs.
Road Race
... The Windermere third
annual 5K Road Race will be
Saturday, April 17, at 8 a.m.
with a one mile Fun Run start
ing at 7:30 a.m. Both races
will begin at the Windermere
Lodge off of Windermere
Parkway in Cumming. The
course will lead runners
through the rolling hills of the
community, with scenic views
of the Davis Love 111-designed
golf course. Proceeds from the
race will be donated to Daves
Creek Elementary School in
support of a school fundraiser
benefiting Relay For Life. A
24-hour, community-based
event. Relay For Life was
designed to celebrate survivor
ship and raise money for the
American Cancer Society.
Registration forms will

race-day registration will
begin at 6:30 a.m. Entry fees
for both races are as follows:

Dawsonville. The entry fee for
the event is $275 per golfer
and corporate sponsorships
are available for $1,200. For
the past eight years Norman’s
Landing has raised more than
$190,000 for The United Way
of Forsyh County. Lunch and
dinner will be provided by
Norman’s Landing. Chestatee
Ford provides the “Hole-In-
One” car, and there are great
prizes for the winners as well
as many items available at the
silent auction. Proceeds will
benefit The United Way of
Forsyth County.
Broadway
... is coming to
Dawsonville. North Georgia
will be treated to a special
evening of musical theater on
May 1 when the Dawson
Community Chorale and the
NGCSU Madrigal Singers
will present their spring con
cert “A Night on Broadway.”
The concert will feature selec
tions from shows such as
“Show Boat,” “Fiddler on the
Roof,” “Phantom of the

Opera,” “Les Miserables,” and
many other popular Broadway
musicals.
The concert will be under
the direction of Dr. Lee G.
Barrow, and accompanist of
Mrs. Tricia Wester.
The concert will be at 7:30
p.m. in the main sanctuary of
Dawsonville First Baptist
Church on Hwy. 9 North.
Admission is free; donations
are encouraged.
