Kidvid offer plenty of spring choices, Dogwood fest this weekend
On the town
Every spring kid-vid
DVD's sprout up like wild
flowers just in time for spring
break.
This spring has an excep
tional amount of offerings.
My top choice is two DVD
sets that will keep the children
busy during spring break and
for months afterwards.
WB has finally released
Hanna Barbera’s "Scooby
Doo, Where Are You? Seasons
1 and 2" and "The Flinstones
Season 1” for mass DVD con
sumption.
The Scooby Doo set is
actually the complete version
of all 25 episodes of the
"Scooby Doo, Where Are
You?” series, as the third sea
son changed to “The Scooby
Doo Movies."
The 10 hours are the per
fect mix of mystery, suspense,
and comedy for family friend
ly Fun.
Each episode turned my
kids into miniature sleuths,
finding clues all over the
house.
The Flinstones was also a
retro treat in our house.
The 11 hours of the first
season runs the gamut of clas
sic situational comedy.
1 did miss the (Flinstones,
meet the Flinstones) version
of the theme song which did
n’t actually get used until the
second season however, the
special features including the
original Flagstones short pilot
more than make up for it.

Scouts honored with God and
Family medals at a recent event
From Staff Reports
Cub Scout Pack 1099.
Flaming Arrow Patrol, recent

Program in conjunction with
St. Columba's Episcopal
Church in South Forsyth
County. After successful com
pletion of the program. Father
Tripp Norris formally present

services at St. Columba's.
The God & Family pro
gram is a non-denominational
study designed for Boy and
Girl Scouts. It combines sym
bolism. scripture and hands
on crafts to emphasize the
value of a strong family bond,
and strengthen the child’s
relationship with his or her
family in the context of the
Christian faith.
Throughout the six-week
program, the children related
their own family stories to the
families in the bible, while
their parents participated as
mentors. To give the lessons
continuity over the six weeks,
each child built a metaphori
cal pizza, with the crust repre
senting a strong family foun

Squarepants is going caveman
as well in “Spongebob Goes
Perhistoric;” the double length
protozoan episode along with
eight bonus episodes are fea
tured.
The title episode is a clever
take on Spongebob evolution
featuring ’Spongegar’ the
cavesponge.
Stepping into the present,
your kids will definitely want
to check out the technological
marvel "Looney Tunes - Back
in Action" which blends live
action and animation in mas
terful detail.
Brendan Fraser and Jenna
Elfman are joined by just
about every character in the
Looney Tunes cannon, as they
try to stop Steve Martin, head
of Acme Corp, attempting to
capture the mystical Blue
Diamond and dominate the
world.
The chase scene through
the Louvre is inspired and
educational and worth the
price of the DVD itself.
The movie really encom
passes the Looney Tunes zani
ness and the obscure cameos
by historical characters.
Having the ability to rewind
this DVD makes it a must
have treat.
the values learned each week.
The last meeting culminated
in a pizza party of the real
kind.
"We are very excited to be
able to offer this program to
local scouts. Scouting is about
building character and what
better place to start than with
the lessons of the bible,” says
Father Tripp Norns, Parochial
Vicar. “St. Columba’s has
been here for only a few
months, yet we have been so
welcomed by the community
and grown so rapidly that we
want to offer programs that
can give back. This is just the
start. We hope to make this an
annual event so that all scouts
will have this opportunity,” he

Another creative marvel is
the live-action “Cat and the
Hat"
Even though many critics
panned Mike Myers’ Cat - I
think they wanted a Dr. Seuss
version of Austin Powers - I
loved it.
In the book, the Cat
orchestrated chaos, but was
not chaotic himself, and
Myers’ was true to the charac
ter while still bringing plenty
of spark to the table.
Our kids absolutely loved
the DVD and it hasn't left our
DVD player since they got it
says.
St. Columba’s is the
newest Episcopal parish in the
Atlanta diocese and is tem
porarily holding services on
Sundays at 11:00 a.m. at
South Forsyth Middle School
at the corner of Old Atlanta
and Sharon Roads in South
Forsyth County.

The 36 outtakes and delet
ed scenes offer loads of Mike
Myers improv and the Behind
the Scenes features help you
appreciate the creativity that
went into bringing Seuss’
world to life.
Last, but certainly not least
is Disney’s “Brother Bear”
which comes to DVD in a two
disc special edition.
With a Sopranos worthy
plot featuring three Native
American Indians brothers.
Kenai, the youngest, kills a
bear who killed his brother,
but the great spirit turns him
into a bear. He is then hunted
by his other brother who
thinks that the bear killed
Kanai. Meanwhile. Kanai
befriends an orphan cub Kona,
who is the son of the mother
bear Kanai killed.
It sounds more complicated
than it is, but the result is life
lessons and Disney style fun.
The DVD is loaded with
special features outtakes and
games, but the best feature is
the commentary by Rutt &
Tuke (long live The McKenzie
Brothers!).
With a great supporting
cast and original music by Phil
Collins, this DVD is a treat.
