Tough luck befalls Georgia women
Georgia Tech is in the
Final Four! How many of us
had the Yellow Jackets,
Connecticut. Oklahoma State
and Duke left standing after
the Regionals? ...
Is it just me or are you
getting tired of PGA analyst
Johnny Miller always harp
ing on how nervous the Tour
pros get when a tournament
gets close?
If Adam Scott’s hook into
the water was a case of
nerves, how was he able to
hit his next shot within 10
feet of the cup and follow it
with a pressure-packed putt
to win the tournament?
I just don’t think profes
sional golfers make the PGA
Tour if they don’t know how
to harness their emotions.
LPGA winner Grace Park
admitted she shook “like a
baby” over her final putt
Sunday, yet she managed to
steady herself long enough to
sink the shot and win the
tournament...
Tough luck for the
Georgia women Monday
night in the Elite Eight. I’ve
always felt Andy Landers
was too tough on his players,

Did you see where the
Georgia High School
Association is thinking about
days of late winter or early
spring, striped bass will ven
ture into major tributaries to
go through the spawning
process. These tributaries
could be rivers or major
creeks that feed the lake.
Locating the big line-sided
predators in these general
areas can be as easy as dis
covering their food supply.
Big Lake Lanier stripers
are exciting to catch, but it
takes some expertise and a
great deal of arduous work.
Striper fishing is similar to
Elk hunting or Marlin fishing.
A considerable amount of
preparation is needed, and

championship competition?

The important for the
Braves to get off to a good
start this spring for two rea
sons. Os course, they don’t
need to get too far behind in
the standings. And, a rough
start with so many new faces
would really hurt atten
dance...
Speaking of the Braves,
remember WSB-AM in
Atlanta won’t be the flagship
station this season. WGST
AM 640 will be home to the
franchise along with several
area FM stations...
I liked John Daly’s
response when asked about
the fact he had beaten Tiger
Woods three straight times
coming into last weekend’s
TPC. “That cuts his lead on
me to about 200-3," said
Daly. Not hard to understand
why the fans love him ...
The Yankees are going to
be in the headlines for one
reason or another all season,
so get used to it. Now, Kenny
Lofton is complaining
because Joe Torre has

When it comes, however, the
striper may not be the only
one who gets hooked.

NFL hopes
for stay in
Clarett case
By Gary Myers
New York Daily News/KRT
PALM BEACH, Fla.
The NFL is going to make
Maurice Clarett sweat it out
before he gets into the draft
next month if he gets into
the draft next month.
"1 think there is a very
substantial chance he will not
be in the draft,” said Jeff
Pash, the league’s executive
vice president.
The NFL sought a stay on
Tuesday of the Feb. 5 ruling
that struck down the league’s
draft requirements that a
player be out of high school
three years to be eligible.
Instead, a three-judge panel
of the Second Circuit U.S.
Court of Appeals in Man
hattan decided the case would
be heard on its merits on
April 19.
The NFL took the expedit
ed time schedule as a sign
that the court believes the
league’s case has merit.
If the court overturns the
trial judge's ruling or grants a
stay, the NFL says it will
keep Clarett, Southern Cal
receiver Mike Williams and
seven others who were ineli
gible under its previous stan
dards out of the April 24-25
draft. Williams is expected to
be a top-five pick.
Clarett, the Ohio State
running back, is expected to
be taken no earlier than the
second round.
