TOUR from 1A
Coal Mountain and then south
to Spot Road, heading west
toward Hwy. 20. After turning
onto 20. the group will head
south to the square in
Cumming, where they will turn
onto Castleberry Road.
“This will be one of the
greatest vantage points of the
day," said Mike Evans, state
Department of Transportation
board member and an adviser
to the race organizers. “I want
to get Forsyth County in con
tention to have a destination
stop in the future. We really
need to have a great turnout to
greet the race when it comes to
town."
Just after turning onto
Castleberry, the racers will
complete a "sprint. A sprint,
according to spokesperson
Jackie Tyson, is a "race within
a race." The sprint will be one
of the most difficult of the tour,
as it will include the 90 degree
turn from Hwy. 20 (West
Maple Street) onto Castleberry
Road. It will end at the inter
section of Castleberry and
Dogwood. The first three racers
to cross the line will receive a
deduction of 8. 6, and 4 sec
onds off their final times.
Evans, an avid cyclist, said
that having Armstrong, perhaps
the world's premier rider, will
add much more attention to the
Georgia race.
The final leg will depart
Dawsonville at 1 p.m.. based on
race estimates. TTie group will
reach the Coal Mountain area
around 2:35 p.m. and down
town Cumming just prior to 3
p.m. Tyson said that spectators
should find their spot to cheer
on the races at least 30 minutes
prior to the estimated arrival.
The Georgia State Patrol and
Forsyth County Sheriff's Office
will be conducting a rolling
roadblock approximately 15
minutes ahead of the race.
Traffic in both directions will
be stopped on the route.
The Tour will begin in
Macon on Tuesday. April 20,
with Stage One and end in
Alpharetta with a Stage Seven
grand finale. The Alpharetta
finish line will be at the inter
section of Haynes Bridge Road
and Morrison Parkway, where
the racers are expected around

the U.S. Senate and to former

"I might vote for Zell

Pearson was appointed by
