Vagts ... son of Chris and Tammie Vagts of Cumming has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, Class of 2008. He was presented' with his offi cial Offer of Appointment by Capt. Scott Evans at an impromptu Vagts ceremony at North Forsyth High School on Feb. 27. Vagts is sheduled to gradu ate with honors in the upper fifth of his class in May from North Forsyth High School. He is very involved in many activi ties there, including serving as company commander for the JROTC Battalion, Color Guard. Drill Team, the ForTech Program, and the National Honor Society. He is also Senior Class secretary and a member of Forsyth County’s Student Advisory Council. Vagts attended the Naval Academy’s Summer Seminar in 2003. He will report to the Naval Academy on June 30. Ashley J. Nichols ... of Cumming, a student of Liberty Middle School, and daughter of Frank and Betty Jo Nichols has been named a Science United States National Award Winner. Nichols will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Offical Yearbook. Scott Dudley ... of Cumming and Forsyth Central High School, attended the second annual Scholar's Day at Georgia Southern University. To be invited stu dents scored a minimum of 1200 on the SAT with a grade point average of 3.5 or above. The participants examined stu dent organization, academic and student services offerings and interviewed for university academic scholarships. Sawnee EMC ... Rebecca Gaal of Forsyth Central and Kaitlin Pniewski of South Forsyth High School were selected to represent Sawnee EMC during the 2004 National Rural Electrification Association Washington Youth Tour. Gaal and Pniewski will join students from across the nation in a tour of an EMC and Washington. Students get a first hand look at government in action, visit with senators and representatives and tour monu ments and museums. They won at the school level, then the county level and now the state level. Hannah Amer in Mrs. Bamickle’s fourth grade class won for photography. Carly Wages in Mrs. Ransbotham’s first grade class won for photography, as well. The competition was very fierce this year. There were 1,500 entries at the state level. The state awards ceremony will be April 18 at North Atlanta High School on Northside Drive. Kindergarten Registration ... for Forsyth County Schools has been set for Thursday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at each elemen tary school. Summer School ... The Forsyth County School System has released information on the 2004 sum mer school. Elementary and Middle School registration forms are due to your child’s school no later than Friday, April 30. Late registration for elementary and middle school students will be held at a time to be announced only for those students who score at Level 1 in Reading/English/Language Arts and/or Math on the Georgia Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT). High School registration will be accepted at your local school beginning April 1. Late registration will be held June 4 and June 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Forsyth County Board of Education office. Out of district students will be allowed to register for classes as space is available. Elementary Summer School for grades 1-5 will be held at Cumming Elementary starting June 7-July 2. Classes run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Transportation will be provided by Forsyth County Schools to students from their home elementary school to Cumming Elementary and back again. Specific bus routes and times will be available on our web site as well as sent home with students. There is no charge for Elementary School summer school. Middle School summer school for grades 6-8 will be held at Otwell Middle School starting June 7-July 2. Classes run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. No trans portation will be provided for middle school students. There is no charge for Middle School summer school. High School summer school for grades 9-12 will be held at Otwell Middle School. There will be two three-week sessions of classes. Each session runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Session 1 dates are June 9-29. Session 2 dates are July 5-23. No trans portation will be provided for high school students. Members of the club can choose to compete in anything from math based applications to networking and programming. Christopher Rush (SFMS) took second place in Keyboarding Application l-Middle Level, Andrew Hodges, Steve Putman, and Nicholas Lance finished in seventh place in Multimedia Presentation and Kyle James who placed third in Website Development.
