QUESTION: How can I
get my road maintained by
the Countv?
live on a County maintained
road there are several steps
that must be taken in order to
get it in the County's mainte
nance program. The first step
is check with your neighbors
to see if they also want the
County to take over mainte
nance of the road. Also if they
are willing to give up 60ft. of
right of way where their prop
erty lines connects to the road.
Roads must meet county
requirements, 15 houses per
mile; property owners must
bring roads up to county stan
dards. Roads must be a county
named road. Residents must
go through the Engineering
Department to name a road
properly.
If everyone is in agree
ment, then contact your right
of way coordinator. They are
located in the Engineering
Department at the
Administration Building locat
ed at HOE. Main Street. Suite
120. They will then contact the
County Engineer.
QUESTION: What are
the requirements for dona
tion of right of way?
ANSWER: Every property
owner has to donate his/her
right of way. The right of way
coordinator will send out
deeds and a tax transfer form
County approved for
terrorism response gear
Forsyth County has been approved to receive two sepa
rate grants from the Office of Domestic Preparedness for
the purchase of terrorism response equipment totaling
over $230,000. One grant is for $ 185,469 and the other for
$44,561.
Gov. Sonny Perdue notified County Administrator
Stevie Mills on Thursday April 8, of the county’s accept
ance.
In a letter dated Mar. 5, Gov. Perdue wrote, “Thank
you for your commitment to protect Georgia citizens and
assets.”
"I appreciate your efforts to ensure that Georgia
remains a safe place for us to live and raise our families.
By working together, we can continue to be prepared.”
that must be signed and nota
rized. Every property owner
along the right of way must
dedicate 20 to 30 feet of prop
erty to create a total right of
way of 40 to 60 feet.
The County standard is 60
feet, but the right of way can
be reduced to as little as 40
feet if conditions warrant.
Every road is a unique case.
Reductions to right of way are
evaluated on a by case basis
and the reduction must be
approved by your
Commissioner or the County
Engineer. Once all the right of
way has been acquired the
road is placed on a list for
paving. The list is ranked by
two factors.
The priority of needs (how
bad are the road conditions?)
The cost to bring the road
up to standard & pave it.
The roads on the list for
paving are rated and ranked
every September.
QUESTION: How do I
get my road paved?
ANSWER: These steps are
similar to how to get a road
under County Maintenance.
Contact the Engineering
Department to see if the road
is County Maintained.
Make sure all the necessary
right of way has been
acquired.
Wait patiently until the
road climbs its way up to the
priority list.
