New Forsyth County associate superintendent to begin July 1

Forsyth County Schools
will have a new associate
superintendent of teaching
and learning on July 1 who
has an extensive background
in education.
Superintendent Paula
Gault announced Patricia
Rooks would soon take the
place of Ellen Cohan, who is
retiring in June.
Rooks has been with
working with Forsyth County-
Schools as the director of
teaching and learning since
September 2003 and has a
good understanding of the
district’s goals and beliefs,
according to Gault.
"She understands that the
role of district administration
is to support the work of the
teachers and staff at the
schools that our job is to
help them increase academic
achievement." said Gault.
Rooks said she was excit
ed about the new opportunity.
"It is indeed a pleasure
and an honor to be selected.

Daves Creek students show off
Friends and family were on hand as Daves Creek Elementary School students performed at the school’s annual
talent show recently. The variety featured 16 acts, chosen from 56 who auditioned. All students in the show
attended several rehearsals to prepare for the event. DJ Mark McCain served as master of ceremonies for the

Rooks is a graduate of
Emory University and re
ceived a doctorate from the
Department of Education
Administration at the Uni
versity of Georgia. She came
to Forsyth County from the
Fulton County School Di
strict where she was execu
tive director of curriculum
and provided leadership for
49 elementary. 14 middle and
13 high schools. She began
her education career as a
teacher in DeKalb County.
