New Christian school plans smaller classes, balanced education

A new private Christian
School will open this fall in
Forsyth County for parents
seeking smaller class sizes and
a religious partnership with
education, its organizers say.
Forsyth Christian School
has acquired property on
Atlanta Highway (Hwy. 9) near
Cumming and plans to offer
kindergarten through 12th
grades instruction at a tempo
rary facility until the school can
be completed at the site.

school. Walls is the school’s
administrator as well as school
athletic director. He formerly
worked as athletic director of
Covenent Christian Academy.

Credit Union. Moseley was
accepted at the University of
Georgia and has participated in

and Senior Class Treasurer. The
competition for the scholarship
is based on individual essays on
the value of credit union mem
bership, academic achievement
and community invovlement.

Mathematics United States
National Award Winner. Romig
will appear in the United States
Achievement Academy Official
Yearbook.
Three students finalists

from South Forsyth High
School's DECA Chapter along
with 15 other winners will
advance to the international
competition in Nashville.
Approximately 1,210 students
attended the state DECA
Career Development
Conference held in Atlanta. The
students competed in various
marketing areas ranging from
creating an advertising cam
paign to making a sales presen
tation.

ple have lived in Forsyth
County for seven years and
enjoy the community, they said.
Beginning this fall students
will attend classes in a tempo
rary location on McFarland
Road in south Forsyth. The
school will remain at that loca
tion for approximately two
years while a new facility is
constructed on 5 acres at 838
Atlanta Hwy. “We want to take
our time and do it right,” said
Walls. “We don’t want to cut
any comers.”
Staffing for the school is
almost complete and officials
are anticipating one class per
grade level with a maximum of
15 students per teacher in the
younger grades and 18 students
per teacher in the middle and
high school levels. Teachers
will be certified and the school
is already completing the three
year process of becoming fully
States Naval Academy, Class of
2008.

by Capt. Scott Evans at an
impromptu ceremony at North
Forsyth High School on Feb.

Vagts will graduate with
honors in the upper fifth of his
class in May from North
Forsy th High School. He is
very involved in many activities
there, including serving as
company commander for the
JROTC Battalion. Color Guard.
Drill Team, the ForTech
Program, and the National
Honor Society . He is also
Senior Class secretary and a
member of Forsyth County’s
Student Advisory Council.
Vagts attended the Naval
Academy 's Summer Seminar
in 2003. He will report to the
Naval Academy on June 30.
Ashley J. Nichols

Nichols has been named a
Science United States National
Award Winner. Nichols will
appear in the United States
Achievement Academy Offical
Yearbook.
Scott Dudley

the second annual Scholar’s
Day at Georgia Southern
University. To be invited stu
dents scored a minimum of
1 200 on the SAT w ith a grade
point average of 3.5 or above.

and student services offerings
and interviewed for university
academic scholarships.

“We want to keep it as close
to a one on one type atmos
phere as possible,” said Walls.
“We are still looking for a good
science teacher," he added.
The school will have a prin
cipal who is experienced in
opening a private Christian
school, according to Walls. Don
James, who was recently
named North Carolina’s Math
Teacher of the Year, started a
private school in south Georgia
while his children were young,
said Walls.
“He comes very highly rec
ommended," he said.
A full varsity athletic pro
gram including flag football,
volleyball, softball, cheerlead
ing, basketball and soccer is
also planned for the school.
“It will be fully functional
from day one,” said Walls. “We
will be competing in the

The school's calendar will be
somewhat similar to the coun
ty’s public school calendar with
the exception of a week break
between Christmas and spring
semester, said Walls. Hours for
the elementary, middle and
high school will be 8:30 a.m. to
2:20 p.m. and kindergarten
from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
