The boat, which was previously reported stolen, was stripped of its engine, gauges, steering wheel, fire extinguisher, stereo and other items. The rangers found cement bags in the bow of the boat, presumably placed there to sink the vessel. Theft by taking: A riding lawn mower valued at $1,300 was stolen from the yard of a home in the 6100 block of Dawsonville Highway between April 23 and 25. The handgun was turned over to sheriff’s deputies. Church signs taken: Five heavy-duty signs belonging to Bannister Creek Church were stolen April 25 after being placed at various intersections. The signs are yellow with pur ple lettering. Stolen fishing poles: Four fishing poles and a tackle box were reported stolen from two boats in the 1800 block of Bald Ridge Marina Road between April 24 and 25. Doctor’s office reports check burglary: Someone broke into the Chattahoochee Family Physician Center on Johns Creek Parkway and stole six checks from a locked filing cabinet on April 19. Three of the six checks, were cashed for amounts totaling more than SB,OOO apiece, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's reports. Drug arrest made in traf fic stop: A 33-year-old man was arrested on drug charges after an officer on patrol on John Burrus Road stopped him April 24. Timothy Lynn Cantrell, of Cumming, was charged with possession of a schedule four drug and drugs not kept in their original con tainer. Perez to the State Board of Education. Perez will represent the state’s 7th Congressional District, which includes Forsyth County. It most recently was represented by Garland Pinholster who was elected to the state's Transportation Board. Perez has a master’s degree in economics from Florida Atlantic University, and con tinues to be very involved in education. He serves on the board of Gwinnett Tech Foundation, is a member of GEMS (Gwinnett County Public Schools Advisory Committee), and the Gwinnett County Public Schools Superintendent's Council of Community Advisors. He closely with UGA's Center for Latino Achievement and Success in Education (CLASE), and is a member of the search committee for UGA's Distinguished Chair of Latino Teacher Education. Perez is the president of Target Market Trends Inc. a Norcross business consulting firm specializing in market and business strategies to increase earnings.
