Lanier Technical College held a cer¬
emonial groundbreaking Tuesday for a
major expansion that will double the
space at its campus in Forsyth County.
At the same ceremony, the college
renamed the main building at the cam¬
pus in honor of James Harrington Jr., a
longtime member of the State Board of
Technical and Adult Education.
Harrington tenaciously sought
approval and funding for .the Forsyth
campus, the first expansion of Lanier
Tech from its Oakwood site.
The building opened in 1998 and
quickly reached its maximum capacity

By Julie Arrington
Staff Writer
Authorities continue to hunt
for suspects in connection with
Monday’s pawn shop burglary,
high-speed chase and unusual
wreck.
Cumming Police Chief
Mike Eason said Wednesday
that authorities think there may
be four suspects in the case,
three of whom are still at large.
The suspects reportedly
took jewelry and about 40
handguns, all of which have
since been recovered, from
Forsyth County Pawn. They are
not believed to be in the area.
Arrest warrants have been
issued for two of the suspects,
one of whom, 30-year-old
Christopher Walton of DeKalb
County, turned up at an Atlanta
hospital.

School’s not out for anoth
er week, but local students
who skipped classes Friday
got an unexpected surprise.
A Forsyth County
Sheriff’s Office truancy sweep
turned up 16 high school stu
dents who did not have valid
excuses for being out of
school.
Lt. Jody Chapman said
two of the students were fish
ing at a marina on Lake
Lanier. Fourteen of the 16
were taken back to school,
The remaining two, who were
17 or older, did not have to go
back. The last day of school is

O’Connor said the county
would save $810,000 by mov
ing the schedule up three

He said Atlanta police may

“We’re trying to run down

Eason said.
