Jimmy Buffett set to perform at Lakewood

On the town
Parrotheads rejoice —
Jimmy Buffett is returning to
Atlanta Thursday night to
kick off the summer in style
at Lakewood Amphitheatre.
A Jimmy Buffett show is
more like a gathering of
friends — all decked in
Hawaiian shirts and dock
shorts - and every show is
a great experience.
He calls this one the
“Year of Still Here Tour” and
it’s sure to be a blast.
Hits like “Son of a Son of
a Sailor,” “Changes in
Latitudes, Changes in
Attitudes,” “Margaritaville,”
“Fins” and “Volcano” are all
staples of recent set lists.
His latest studio releases
are "Take The Weather with
You” and the “Hoot 11
Soundtrack which sports five
new original songs from
Buffett including “Floridays
and “Barefootin”’ — a duet
with Alan Jackson.
Last year he also released
two live recordings “2007
Live in Anguilla” and “Live
at Texas Stadium” which he
recorded in a rare show with
country legends George
Strait and Alan Jackson.
Both are great previews
of his live show, not to men
tion perfect driving tunes.
But if you have ever been to
a Buffett show, you know
nothing compares to the real
thing.
I always enjoy Buffett
concerts there is some
thing about the ambience
that says have a drink and
forget about life for a few
hours.
The crowd is almost as
entertaining as the stage.
Parrottheads never disap¬
point.
Before you go to the
show you may want to head
down to Perimeter Place and
grab a bite at the new restau¬
rant “Cheeseburger in
Paradise” to get you in the
mood.
Located at 1230 Ashford
Crossing just past Perimeter
Mall, it is the flagship
Atlanta location for the chain
which was conceived by
Buffett and is being operated
by Outback Steakhouse
chain.
They actually do have one
of the best Cheeseburgers
around — the Caribbean
spices make the difference.
Verizon Wireless Amph¬
itheatre at Encore Park is
continuing one of the best
debut seasons ever this
weekend with Stevie Nicks
on Saturday and Steely Dan
on Sunday.
Jazz-rock icons Walter
Becker and Donald Fagen,
otherwise known as Steely
Dan are legends.
When the band disbanded
in 1981, fans were heartbro¬
ken. But since reuniting in
2000, they have released two
classic CDs “Two Against
Nature ** ( 2000 ) and
“Everything Must Go ii
(2003).

skies brings her music to life
in a way that is almost
magic.
Her gypsy wardrobes and
swirly performance just
seems to mesh with nature.
She is on tour to support
“Crystal Visions — The Very
Best of Stevie Nicks,” a
CD/DVD combo that has her
hits and 13 of her videos
complete with commentary.
Recent set lists have
included solo hits like
“Stand Back,” “Stop
Draggin’ My Heart Around, - *
“Edge of Seventeen,” and
Fleetwood Mac classics like
“Rhiannon” and “Dreams”
and a cover of Led
Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”
Either night will make a
perfect night on the town, or
for these two shows, I would
consider living it up and
making it a two-fer.
Also this week, Wild
Bill’s in Duluth will be cele¬
brating their fifth anniver¬
sary in style.
Most importantly, the
show is a rare chance to
check out Bill Gentry and
the 35-Cent Rodeo, who is
not only the founder, but
made Wild Bill’s the place to
be every Saturday night since
opening in 2003.
He debarked in 2007 to
put the finishing touches on
his debut CD of all original
songs and prepare to head out
on a national tour, handing
the house band reins in the
capable hands of Ross
Coppley and Michael Moore,
both of which will open for
Bill on Saturday night.
Wild Bill’s is the largest
country music dance club
and concert hall in America
and was recently ranked the
No. 2 venue in the nation by
The Country Music
Association.
The venue holds 5,000
people —■’ more than the Fox.
Fans flock to Wild Bill’s
to party with Bill Gentry
himself and he is one of
Atlanta’s best.
He connects with the
audience, playing whatever
covers fans want to hear,
from “Wanted Dead or Alive”
by Bon Jovi to “Sweet Home
