that they made to accompany the theme called “Power Lab” at Pleasant Grove United Methodist.

about it for the past couple of
months," said Caitlin Allen of
Christ Community Church.
Allen, the assistant chil¬
dren’s pastor, said vacation
Bible school is "a time for kids
to come together and be silly.”
She said preparations will start
soon for their school, which
begins June 16.
“Without planning and
prayer, you’ve got nothing,”
she said. “You have to plan
ahead for VBS or you’re in
trouble.”
Like other area churches,
Christ Community accepts stu¬
dents from preschool through
fifth grade tor their weeklong
program. Preregistration is
helpful but not necessary.
Sign-ups have already
begun at Cumming Baptist
Church, where Chad Ireland,
associate pastor to students.

said they’ve had an influx of
children.
"We’re expecting a big
turnout,” Ireland said.
Last year the church had
about 150 children enroll in the
program. Ireland described the
vacation Bible school, which
this year runs June 23-27, as a
"weeklong concentrated look
at some essential truths in life. ' •
Ireland also said planning
ahead can make the difference
between a successful program
and one that isn’t.
“Getting everything in line
before the week comes is
important, M Ireland said.
"Getting parents familiar with
the program so they know it’s
safe and secure for their child
is also very important.”
Pleasant Grove United
Methodist Church will have a
Bible study for parents during
vacation Bible school so they
don’t have to venture too far
from their children’s classes.
Director Jane Martin said
some parents want to stay
close.
"Vacation Bible school is a
safe environment, where kids
will have a good time and
learn to share God’s love,"
Martin said.
She said children from the
church aren't the only ones
getting involved with the pro¬
gram. Middle school and high
school children and teenagers
have volunteered to help.
"We try to get as many
helpers as we can," Martin
said. "We have different teach¬
ers for different things and
helpers for activities and
refreshments.”
Pleasant Grove's vacation
Bible school starts with a
cookout at 5 p.m. today and
runs through June 5.
Some churches like Deer
Creek Shores Presbyterian are
having a half-week of vacation
Bible school as opposed to the
typical weeklong program.
Director Jodi Wacho said
the church has been "getting
the word out for months. i*
"Our kids have so much
fun,” Wacho said. “They’re
pretty much on the go the
whole time, and that's what
makes VBS fun.
