and a bag of candy. Sponsored by the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club, the fair featured
various exhibits and demonstrations on bicycle, fire and water safety, as well as stranger
danger and the Internet. The Forsyth County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office were
among the agencies taking part in the summer safety event. Also participating were
Northside Hospital-Forsyth, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Coast Guard
Auxiliary, Sea Scouts and Keep Forsyth County Beautiful.

AARP driver safety pro
gram
...a one-day class is being
offered from 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m.
June 14 at the Northside
Hospital-Forsyth, 1400
Northside Forsyth Drive in
Cumming. This refresher course
updates the driving laws, strate¬
gies for avoiding crashes, driv¬
ing more safely, minimizing dis¬
tractions and more. The class is
open to everyone. An AARP
member may bring a partner to
the class for $10. AARP mem¬
bers are required to bring their
membership card to the class.
Participants in the eight hours of
driver refresher training will
receive a certificate for a poten

tial auto insurance discount. The
course must be renewed every 3

The Upper Etowah River
Alliance
... is offering a canoe trip on
the Etowah River on June 14 to
anyone interested in a day out¬
side. They will canoe in the
Dawson Forest part of the river,
good for people with all skill
levels in canoeing. They will
use Appalachian Outfitters, who
will supply the canoes, paddles
and other necessary equipment
as well as shuttle service
between the put-in point to the
take out. The trip will cost $15
per person, up to $30 per canoe.

Vogel State Park hosts free
Kids Fishing Rodeo
... from 8 a.m.-noon June 14
at the park on Georgia Hwy.
129. Fishing will be allowed by
kids 12 years and younger. This
program is designed to get kids
and their families involved in
the healthy sport of fishing.
Vogel volunteers and staff will
be helping with baiting hooks,
giving out bait and taking fish
off the hooks. Please bring fish¬
ing poles if possibles, though a
limited supply will be available
for loan. Children must be
accompanied by an adult. The
first 300 children will receive a
