5-12 years. This scholarships
opportunity is open to low
income families that could not
afford to provide their child

able on a first come-first
served basis for the sessions
on June 9-20, June 23-July 4
and July 7-18. Parents are

Safety Town
... is a fun-filled, nine-day
program for children entering
kindergarten. Participants will
learn safety awareness and
preventive safety procedures.

Department at Shiloh Point

• Planning several trips for
seniors. Trips include an 11
night Las Vegas and Grand
Canyon trip in September; a
Nashville show trip from Dec.
8-12; and an Alaskan cruise
from May 15-25, 2009.

• Looking for homebound
seniors interested in having a
“friendly visit” by a volunteer.
The goal of the “Friends of
Seniors” program is to
decrease social isolation for
seniors.
The volunteers for this pro¬
gram enjoy being with others
and conversing on the phone
or in person at the senior’s
home. Volunteers are matched
with seniors using similar
interests, hobbies and demo¬
graphics.
Some activities that volun¬
teers and seniors may enjoy
together include playing cards,
taking walks, reading or talk¬

Alliance
... is offering a canoe trip
on the Etowah River on June
14 to anyone interested in a
day outside. They will canoe
in the Dawson Forest part of
the river, good for people with
all skill levels in canoeing.
They will use Appalachian
Outfitters, who will supply the
canoes, paddles and other nec¬
essary equipment as well as
shuttle service between the put
in point to the take out. The
trip will cost $15 per person,
up to $30 per canoe. For more

Vogel State Park hosts
free “Kids Fishing Rodeo "
... from 8 a.m.-noon June
14 at the park located on
Georgia Hwy. 129. Fishing
will be allowed by kids 12
years and younger. This pro¬
gram is designed to get kids
and their families involved in
the healthy sport of fishing.
Vogel volunteers and staff will
be helping with baiting hooks,
giving out bait and taking fish
off the hooks. Please bring
your own fishing poles if pos¬
sible, though a limited supply
will be available for loan.
Children must be present with
an adult. The first 300 chil¬
dren will receive a free T-shirt.
