Safety Town

seniors. Trips include an 11 -
night Las Vegas and Grand
Canyon trip in September
2008; a Nashville show trip

Alaskan cruise from May 15-

• Looking for homebound
seniors interested in having a
“friendly visit” by a volunteer.
The goal of the “Friends of
Seniors” program is to
decrease social isolation for
seniors. The volunteers for
this program enjoy being with
others and conversing on the
phone or in person at the
senior’s home. Volunteers are
matched with seniors using
similar interests, hobbies and
demographics. Some activities
that volunteers and seniors
may enjoy together include
playing cards, taking walks,
reading or talking. For more

movement. “PM” programs
are 35 minutes long, and fea¬
ture longer picture books and
word games, along with
music, puppet shows and

AARP driver safety pro
gram
...a one-day class is being
offered from 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m.

Hospital-Forsyth, 1400
Northside Forsyth Drive in
Cumming. This refresher
course updates the driving
laws, strategies for avoiding
crashes, driving more safely,
minimizing distractions and
more. The class is open to
everyone. An AARP member
may bring a partner to the
class for $ 10. A ARP mem¬
bers are required to bring their
membership card to the class.
Participants in the eight hours
of driver refresher training
will receive a certificate for a
potential auto insurance dis¬
count. The course must be
renewed every three years. For

Vogel State Park hosts
free “Kids Fishing Rodeo 99

14 at the park located on
Georgia Hwy. 129. Fishing
will be allowed by kids 12 and
younger. This program is
designed to get kids and their
families involved in the
healthy sport of fishing. Vogel
volunteers and staff will be
helping with baiting hooks,
giving out bait and taking fish
off the hooks. Please bring
your own fishing poles if pos¬
sible, though a limited supply
will be available for loan.
Children must be present with
an adult. The first 300 chil¬
dren will receive a free T-shirt.
