Foreclosure proceedings have
begun on about 19 parcels of land
totaling an estimated $44 million in
three major Forsyth County develop¬
ments.
Part of Hedgewood Properties’
Vickery, Hampton and
Chattahoochee River Club develop¬
ments, the properties are scheduled
to be sold Sept. 2 on the steps of the
county courthouse, according to legal
notices published in the Forsyth
County News.
Pam Sessions, co-founder and
chief executive of Hedgewood, could
not be reached for comment.
But David M. Smith,
Hedgewood’s executive vice presi¬
dent, said Thursday that the debt
amount could be less than it appears.
Sometimes the face amount is
not the current amount,” Smith said.
So it’s a little misleading when you
look at the original note amounts that
relate to the security deeds.”
Smith said that every time a prop¬
erty is sold, the debt decreases.

Wednesday morning marked
an important milestone for the
new Women’s Center at
Northside Hospital-Forsyth.
At 20 inches long and weigh¬
ing 7 pounds, 15 ounces, Hudson
Lee Bickers was delivered via
Cesarean section at 7:44 a.m.
His was the first scheduled
birth in Forsyth County in 25
years.
Hudson is the second son of
Flowery Branch residents Russell
and Allyson Bickers.
The couple’s 2-year-old son,
Brayden, joined them at the hos¬
pital Wednesday to celebrate the
new addition to their family.
Russell Bickers said Brayden
is “real excited” about being a
big brother.
“We’ve been talking about it a
long time,” he said.
By 4:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Hudson was the first of three
boys bom at the hospital. A baby
girl was on the way.
Allyson Bickers said her
obstetrician-gynecologist, Sean
Lambert, had told her a few
months ago there was a chance
her delivery would be the cen¬
ter’s first.
“We were just thrilled to be
the first,” Allyson Bickers said.

Olympics
launch
in China
By Joseph Miller
Worldwide attention will
turn to the most populous
country on Earth when the
XXIX Olympic Games begin
today.
China has spent seven
years preparing for the
Olympics. It was selected by
the International Olympic
Committee in 2001 as host of
the Summer Games, an oppor¬
tunity for the historically
closed country to “reveal”
itself to the world.
Being chosen as host coun¬
try carries a large responsibili¬
ty, one which Chinese officials
have said they’ve met.
From cleaning up air pollu¬
tion to building modem facili¬
ties, crews have worked
around the clock to create a
welcoming atmosphere.
And the organizers of the
opening ceremony hope to
prove that.
Famous Chinese film direc¬
tor Zhang Yimou (“Hero, H
House of Flying Daggers”)
has worked for about three
years on the 3.5-hour show.
Details had been kept top
secret until a South Korean
film crew recorded and
released clips of the dress
rehearsals this week.
Probably the most recog¬
nizable landmark of the 29th
modem Olympiad will be the
Beijing National Stadium,
called “Bird’s Nest” in
Chinese. The steel structure
resembles a nest, with support
beams crisscrossing in many
directions.
The opening ceremonies
will begin at 8:08 tonight
(Aug. 8, 2008) China Standard
Time. That is 7:08 a.m.
Eastern Standard Time. The
number eight is a symbol of
prosperity in Chinese culture.
