Obama opens office
Democratic hopeful’s campaign
sets up in conservative stronghold

A Democrat in Forsyth
County?
In a presidential election
where Georgia may be up for
grabs, anything seems possi
ble.
At least, that’s the hope of
presumptive Democratic pres
idential nominee Sen. Barack
Obama’s campaign, which
recently opened a local office.
With nearly 90 percent of
registered Forsyth County
voters choosing a Republican
ballot in the July primary
election, setting up camp in a
traditionally conservative
stronghold may seem like a
long shot.
it Not this campaign. Not
this candidate,” said Carolyn
Adelmann, a spokeswoman
for the Obama campaign. “We
have a field operation that
stretches to every corner in
this state, and we’re not going
to ignore areas that have tradi
tionally not been with
Democrats before.
Adelmann said having an

included other elements.
It was my thought that the
easement agreement would be
fairly concise,” Jarrard said at
Tuesday’s session. “That is, it
would give the county permis¬
sion to go ahead and get on the
property. That way the trucks
could get moving. M
Jarrard said he modified the
agreement based on what he
understood to be a consensus
between Taubman and commis¬
sioners: “Enter into an easement
agreement that will allow con¬
struction activities to commence
even if we don’t necessarily
have all the nuts and bolts of the
development in place yet.”
The changes to the easement
agreement, which details 1.75
miles of road construction
between McGinnis Ferry and
McFarland roads in south
Forsyth, did not suit Taubman
representative Mark Putney.
.. We certainly would like to
reach an agreement with the
county on this,” Putney told

Jackness and his wife,
Arlene, spent a few hours
Wednesday night at the
commissioners at the work ses
sion. “But this version contains
things that are important to the
county, and it’s missing things
that are important for
Taubman.
Putney said he was con
cerned with some missing
details in the recent draft.
“There needs to be certainty
that the road with all of its parts
and pieces is going to get start
ed at a certain time under a cer
tain schedule,” Putney said.
Commissioner Jim Harrell
countered that such details had
no place in the road construc¬
tion agreement.
“The bits and pieces that are
missing are part of the develop¬
ment package we are still trying
to get to,” Harrell said. “And
they contain the stickiest points
of die development agreement.”
Jarrard said the purpose of
the easement agreement for
